    American Stage Theatre Company in St. Petersburg, Florida is seeking an Associate Artistic Director with demonstrated creative and organizational skills. The Associate Artistic Director is a key collaborator within the artistic team and works closely with the Producing Artistic Director to program and produce the work of American Stage. They are tasked with fulfilling the company's mission to reinforce the power of live theatre with high quality productions of compelling plays that excite and challenge a diverse audience. We are passionate about the telling of meaningful stories that inspire audiences to lean forward and engage.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Associate Artistic Director reports to the Producing Artistic Director and is responsible for managing and overseeing many Artistic department functions, including acting as primary casting director, co-producing the Beyond the Stage Series, associate producing the mainstage and park series, collaborating with the Producing Artistic Director on season selection and helping to drive new play development. This position includes direct contact with all artists and artistic and production personnel working at American Stage and serves as part of the administrative leadership team.

    Programmatic Duties

    • Provide daily managerial support for the Artistic department, including schedule coordination, acting as point of contact with Marketing, Company Management, Education and Production.
    • Collaborates with Producing Artistic Director and Community Engagement to produce ancillary events that include popups, talkbacks, readings, staged readings, workshops, festivals, community events, town hall meetings, and special events.
    • Work in tandem with the Company Manager ensure that guest visits and itineraries run smoothly. Contracts, offers, and needed paperwork are in good order for all artists, and that processes and information for all visiting artists are organized, thorough and transparent.
    • Engages in pre-production planning and hiring (directors, choreographers and music directors), active production oversight, and oversight of artistic educational programming, readings of new works, workshops, and other special projects.

    Casting & Literary

    • Set up local and national auditions for our season as well as collaborating with casting directors in NYC, LA, ATL, D.C. on auditions for our season.
    • Act as casting/ auditions point of contact with Actor's Equity.
    • Work with season directors to ensure all audition needs are met and auditions calls and offers are done expediently.
    • Helm local casting of the Beyond the Stage series (includes all Beyond programming, LEV new play festival, educational school tour, and Fresh Ink festival)
    • Read and report on new and extant material in consideration for season planning.
    • Bring programming ideas and materials forward for consideration by the PAD.

    Outreach and Resource

    • Build and cultivate relationships with fellow peers and theater artists in the community. This includes attending shows, gatherings, and patron engagement events as necessary.
    • Lead Talk Backs as needed after performances.
    • Aid Community Engagement in coordinating & executing events, building community partnerships, and attending public/community events as a representative of American Stage.
    • Oversee the maintenance and organization of an extensive and comprehensive artistic database, including playwrights, producers, directors, choreographers, designers, composers, music directors, actors, and other artistic personnel. Oversee the maintenance of current contact information for agents, playwrights, and producers in appropriate databases.
    • Support American Stage productions by attending rehearsal hall run-throughs, previews, and opening night performances.
    • Advocate and champion, the work of BIPOC, Queer, Women, and underrepresented communities in our organization and audience base. Attends IDEA council convenings and helps put recommended findings into action.

    Characteristics and Qualifications

    • Excellent collaborator and communicator
    • Experience managing the needs of various constituencies at once
    • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
    • Knowledge of USA and AEA regulations a plus
    • Ability to handle budgets and expenditures
    • Ability to effectively communicate and work well within a diverse group of colleagues and artists, all while exhibiting grace and good humor under pressure
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
    • Confident public speaker.

    REQUIRED QUILIFICATIONS

    The ideal candidate will be a resourceful, energetic, curious, and positive professional with

    exceptional producing and communication skills. A passion for collaboration, theatre, logistics, and an attention to detail is a must.

    • A bachelor's degree in theatre or comparable experience
    • Demonstrable experience advocating for equity, diversity and inclusion.
    • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, producing and managing large artistic projects.
    • Experience as a producer in theatre, film or television.
    • Experience in managing, motivating and inspiring staff to accomplish common objectives.
    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills – characterized by the ability to listen, speak and write well.

    COMPENSATION

    $44,000 - $48,000
