Position Summary:


This position works under the direction of a certificated teacher or other staff member and may include both instructional and non-instructional activities.

The position may work individually or in small groups with students and perform clerical duties. May also include proctoring state testing and providing oversight in community-based learning activities.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Provides tutoring in all levels of high school math including and up to Calculus.
  • Works with students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities as directed by certificated staff.
  • Promotes student understanding of material presented. Supports students in community
- based learning activities.

  • Assists certificated staff in record keeping and in maintaining student progress records. Gathers data for program compliance. Prepares quarterly reports and participates in classroom teacher conferences as appropriate.
  • Uses a computer and software programs for student instruction; demonstrates proper use to students.
  • Provides positive reinforcement and feedback; communicates with teachers and parents concerning student progress in attaining goals.
  • Monitors and advises on individual students' progress toward graduation.
  • Provides student support services and case management.
  • Motivates students to focus on their graduation plan.
  • Encourages parent and community involvement.
  • Connects parents and students with appropriate school and community resources.
  • Secures supplemental academic services for students.
  • Implements school wide dropout prevention programs and interventions.
  • Analyzes data to identify atrisk students.
  • Assists in maintaining records and files; ensures that files contain all required documentation. Gathers data for and assists in preparing program reports.
  • Provides clerical assistance in school office. Answers the telephone and routes callers or takes messages. Greets and assists office visitors.
  • Provides supervision of students; acts as a role model to demonstrate appropriate behavior, maintains order, ensures that students follow rules and regulations. Monitors behavior and mediates disputes, implements behavior plans in school and in school related activities as directed, administers discipline as authorized.
  • Performs related duties as assigned consistent with the intent and scope of the position.

  • Ability to lift and carry children weighing up to 50 pounds.
Education and Experience


State Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of at least two years of study (70 quarter credits) at an institution of higher education; or
  • Hold an Associate's degree or higher; or
  • Ability to pass the Para-Pro test to demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics, and
  • Ability to complete new statemandated Fundamental Course of Study (FCS).
  • Experience working with schoolaged children.
  • Experience in a school setting desirable.
  • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.
  • Successful WA State Patrol and FBI fingerprinting clearance.
  • Proof of MMR immunization (if born 1/1/1957 or later).
  • I9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
  • Completion of all districtrequired trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.

Licenses / Special Requirements

  • Must complete training in First Aid and CPR as required by the District.
  • Complete mandatory online safety training within 30 days of hire and annually as required.
  • Requires fingerprinting and criminal record check for felonies and child abuse.
