Description

The VP of Defense Business Unit (DBU) is responsible for developing and executing the business unit strategy that will position CET as an industry leader that delivers novel integrated solutions for the defense market space.

Strategy(s) will be executed by developing industry, government and organizational relationships which lead to actionable business leads, closed sales, and government relationship cultivation.

This position will be responsible for increasing the scope and breadth of the company's engagement with the US DoD and allied partners.


Essential Functions

The general expectations will include, but not be limited to the following:


  • DBU Development:
  • Assess current capabilities and align with current market opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with government entities that focus across the Technical Readiness Level (TRL) spectrum for defense related products, systems, and services.
  • Define the investment strategy to deploy internal and external funding to best position the DBU for yearoveryear top line growth.
  • Technical: Provide technical input and guidance in areas that are not within the company's core competencies (e.g. software, firmware, and control system architecture).
  • Proposals: Support Senior Management to develop customer proposals for the DBU. Provide guidance on win strategy to include competitive advantage, price to win discussions, and risk profiles.
  • Present proposals to partners / clients in person and in writing, either alone or with members of the CET team.
  • Close the sale: Work with the CET team and the customer to successfully close the sale.

Project Management:

Work with the CET team to communicate and create initial project documentation, then transition the project from the agreement phase to the design and /or manufacturing phase(s).


  • Support the president and consultant team on Capitol Hill to develop CET federal business and policy priorities, engage with federal agency customers and Members of Congress, and support proposals for relevant funding opportunities, including via the annual federal appropriations process.
  • Work closely with Senior Management to review contracts prior to award acceptance.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. This position will work with the CET Executive Management Team including President, CTO, and VP of Business Development and Strategy.

Work Environment
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and printers.

This position may require time spent on the shop floor and exposure to shop elements including noise, moving parts, dust and fumes.

PPE will be provided upon request.


Physical Demands


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office environment and on production floor, use standard office equipment, and walk and climb stairs, strength to carry supplies, equipment, and materials up to 20 lbs., vision to read printed materials on computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.


Position Type & Expected Work Hours
This is a full-time onsite position. The expectation is 45 hours / five full-days per week. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.


Travel
Travel will be on an as needed basis.


Required Education and Experience

  • United States Citizen
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years in cultivating business and relationships
  • General government relations experience and knowledge of the legislative process, congressional operations, and national security policy issues
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills General computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite and CRM software.
