Opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join Portescap's US R&D team.

The primary responsibility for this role is the design of custom miniature motor systems used in high performance surgical hand tools and surgical robotics systems, as well as in aerospace and other industrial applications.

Additional responsibilities include sustaining engineering support for our customers and innovation to enable technology breakthroughs that extend our ability to serve our customer's unmet needs.

The R&D team is an essential component of Portescap's growth strategy, requiring creative, effective, and flexible candidates able to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This position will report into our Engineering Manager and be located in West Chester, PA.

What You'll Do:

Design and development of new and advanced miniature motor drive systems from concept to production in a cross functional engineering and manufacturing environmentWork closely with Customers and the Commercial Team to gather design inputs from various sources and translate that input into engineering requirementsWork closely with the New Product Development and Manufacturing teams to ensure manufacturability of new designsDevelop & integrate new technology that extends the performance and capabilities of our productsSupport internal and external customer change requests and sustaining engineering needsParticipate in the innovation process and lead the development of new processes and designsChampion the company's culture and core values: teamwork, continuous improvement, performance measurement, integrity, personal responsibilityCritical CompetenciesUnderstanding of various manufacturing equipment and processes (laser welding, transfer molding, lathe machine, milling machine, CNC)Understanding of quality systems and other process improvement toolsSelf-motivated and prioritizes well; is capable of developing and driving clear and concise action plans to meet project timelines and deliverablesComfortable working alone and with others in a manufacturing environmentEncourages and rewards thoughtful risk taking; demonstrated ability to anticipate and articulate risksEffective problem solver including the ability to perform root cause analysisProduct development methodologyUnderstanding of detailed design around material selection, bearing selection , heat treatments, GD&T, Tolerance stack-up, etcBuilding test plan & product validationEducation and Experience Requirements B.S.
