    POSITION TITLE DEPARTMENT: Radiology Technologist Diagnostic Imaging
    REPORTS TO: EFFECTIVE DATE: Lead Tech, Clinical Manager, Director

    Ages of Patients Served - Provides patient care or has patient interaction to specific population of patients: (check all that apply) x Child: Birth to 12 Years x Adolescent: 13 to 18 Years x Adult: 19 to 64 Years x Older Adult: 65 Years & Above

    I. JOB SUMMARY:
    Under general direction performs a variety of radiographic procedures at a skilled technical level requiring the ability to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnoses. Performs related work as required. May be assigned to perform some special procedures, which require the use of complex equipment (i.e., CT, MRI, Ultrasound). Occasionally directs and supervises quality control in the department

    TECHNICAL SKILLS/JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS/* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* TELEPHONE SKILLS - Demonstrates hospital telephone etiquette by answering the phones promptly, courteously and identifying department and self.

    Documentation is accurate, complete and legible.

    Reviews patient history and consults with radiologist if necessary (images and reports)

    Clarifies all physician orders.

    • Documents exam completion and any medications given
    • Reviews hand-off form and fills out for return

    • Assures patient modesty and comfort

    • Tech introduces him/her self to patient and explains procedure

    • Practices universal protocol. Washes hands pre and post procedure.

    • Never leaves patient unattended without safety strap or bedrails.

    • Assists in the training and guidance of new technologists and students.

    • Reviews and completes proper billing functions before turning in Cerner, START and COMPLETE exams accurately and timely before turning in to Radiologist and checking accuracy in PACS.

    • Review for contrasted exams and high radiation procedures. Discusses with radiologist and documents.
    • Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment within the department (i.e., x-ray, surgical, portable equipment).

    • Performs and/or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures according to approved department procedures manual.

    • Demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills and uses film markers properly. Prepares and positions patient for examination; obtains scout films and sets up trays.

    • Adjust technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation.

    • Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments.
    • Troubleshoots equipment, records malfunctions and alerts coordinator to insure timely service and repair.

    • Confirms patient identification by department protocol (verbal communication, I.D. band, etc.)

    • Reviews M.D. order, patient questionnaire and requisition for physician notes and/or special instructions and reviews patient procedure with radiologist and patient if necessary, to assure safety and appropriateness

    • Reviews exposed films for proper positioning, technique and identification

    • Performs equipment visual inspections, selects appropriate equipment and applies immobilization devices as required
    • Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.

    • Records pertinent patient information and completes all paperwork as required and assists in maintaining files
    • Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code and properly administers aid as needed
    • Keeps rooms/work stations neat, orderly and prepared with supplies necessary to complete exams. Insures that the emergency kit is stocked and current.

    • Follows facility policy & procedure when performing invasive procedures, including sterile technique, documented time out process, completed patient consent form and proper labeling of specimens

    • *Willingly performs other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required (i.e., transport, clerical).

    SAFETY- Keeps work area neat and maintains equipment in accordance with health and safety codes. Reports safety issues and equipment failures appropriately

    APPEARANCE - Projects a professional image, follows the hospital dress code policy and/or department requirements. Wears hospital ID badge at all times on duty.

    CONFIDENTIALITY - Sensitive information including, but not limited to, patient records, charts, hospital documents and employee information is kept confidential without exception. Verifies patient information is provided to appropriate party, i.e. patient discharge information, fax to doctor's office, etc.

    ANNUAL REQUIREMENTS - Completes annual requirements (PPD, health requirements, Annual Update, Ethics training, licensure and/or professional certification) on time.

    • IV. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
      MANDATORY:Valid CA State Certification License in Unlimited diagnostic radiology services CPR certification required

    • New graduates must obtain fluoroscopy license within 6 months of hire
      PREFERRED:

    • 2 years progressively more responsible experience in radiology related program/job. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
