Volunteer Opportunity Description:

Does local history and genealogy fascinate you? Do you want to get involved at the library? Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that will look great on a college application?

We need volunteers to assist with the digitization (scanning) and indexing of items in the archival collections.

Digitizing and indexing historical documents and photos allow items to be made freely available online to patrons and researchers while protecting the original documents.

Making materials accessible to all patrons is extremely important to KCPL and we need your help to do it.

The Local History department has a variety of scanners in use for digitizing materials. We train everyone on the machines, and there is always a staff member available if questions arise. Indexing is usually done with Excel and again, we will train volunteers to enter and save relevant data.

Skills needed for this
Volunteer Opportunity:

Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)

Ability to follow instructions

Attention to detail

Ability to work independently with supervision

Days and Hours needed:

Any amount of time that you can volunteer is appreciated. We are flexible and will find a schedule that works for you.

Volunteer time would be done during the department's open hours - which are currently Mon-Wed 9-5, Thu 9-9, Fri 9-5, Sat 10-5, and Sun 1-5.

If you would like to volunteer in the evening, the department is open until 9 on Thursdays.
