Department Focus:
The Child Life team plays a crucial role in enhancing children's development to improve their response to medical treatment, reduce psychological stress, and enhance understanding and coping mechanisms related to health care experiences. Child Life offers children avenues for skill development, play, learning, self-expression, family engagement, and peer interaction. In addition to advocating for children and families in various healthcare settings, Child Life professionals act as valuable resources for staff and the community on child development and health-related matters.
Role Overview:
The Child Life Specialist position primarily centers on fostering children's ongoing development to optimize their reactions to medical care, alleviate psychological stress, and enhance comprehension and coping with health-related situations.
Bachelor's degree in child life or child development/developmental psychology concentration required.
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification mandatory.
* Preferable child life certification upon hire, otherwise required within the first year of employment.
* Completion of a 480-hour child life internship under CCLS supervision.
* Certain child life specialist roles may stipulate a minimum duration of work experience.
* Past experience working with children and families is beneficial.
