    AESC Mission

Our mission is to solve the challenges for a sustainable future. Together, we can make a meaningful impact.

    About the Role

As AESC continues to expand its battery manufacturing capabilities to meet the growing demand from automotive OEM partners, we are embarking on a significant expansion of our engineering teams. This includes the critical role of Quality Engineer, Construction, who will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our new facilities meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency. The position is based at our Gigafactory in Bowling Green, Kentucky, one of the key sites for our production efforts.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of our construction projects, ensuring that every aspect of the build process adheres to stringent quality standards. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust QA/QC program tailored to each site, driving a quality-first culture, and ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and specifications. Your work will directly impact on the smooth launch and operational efficiency of our new facilities.

You will collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders, including consultants, contractors, subcontractors, commissioning agents, and vendors, to ensure the highest quality outcomes. Your expertise in quality assurance, coupled with your ability to navigate complex construction environments, will be essential in delivering projects that not only meet but exceed industry standards.

    What You Will Do

    • Utilize Comprehensive Understanding: Apply your thorough knowledge of standards, specifications, and applicable codes, particularly those related to manufacturing and utility equipment and material installation. This includes adhering to ASTM, ASME, and ISO standards relevant to construction.
    • Assist QA/QC Program Development: Contribute to creating the site-specific QA/QC program by developing procedures for quality control and quality assurance, such as Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
    • Drive Quality Culture: Promote a "right first time" and continuous improvement mindset by implementing regular training sessions for staff and contractors on quality best practices and lessons learned from previous projects.
    • Create Quality Metrics: Develop and track metrics such as First Pass Yield (FPY), Defect Density, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) to measure quality performance throughout the construction project cycle.
    • Ensure Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements by conducting regular audits and reviews of construction practices and documentation.
    • Establish Relationships: Build and sustain working relationships with consultants, contractors, subcontractors, commissioning agents, and vendors to ensure the QC Program is followed, facilitating regular coordination meetings and quality walkthroughs.
    • Execute and Verify Inspections: Conduct and verify inspections on materials, equipment, and installation activities on site, ensuring they align with approved design drawings, specifications, and methods. This includes overseeing critical inspections such as concrete pour quality, structural steel installation, and utility connections.
    • Perform Completion Checks: Conduct final inspections to verify that completed work meets all requirements before sign-off, utilizing checklists for punch list items and substantial completion criteria.
    • Document QC Activities: Maintain comprehensive daily QC reports, including inspection results, equipment statuses, material compliance, and records of non-conformance and corrective actions.
    • Review Contractor Work: Evaluate contractor inspections and third-party testing results to ensure alignment with site requirements, focusing on areas like soil compaction tests, weld inspections, and electrical installations.
    • Witness and Oversee Tests: Witness and oversee critical tests, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), pressure tests, and functional tests of installed systems, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
    • Manage Inspection Status and Authorize Installations: Ensure inspection status control within your area of responsibility, authorizing acceptance of installations only after verifying compliance with standards and specifications.
    • Implement and Monitor Test Plans: Obtain relevant documentation and ensure the correct implementation of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), regularly reviewing and updating them based on project progress and findings.
    • Handover Documentation: Assist in the preparation and coordination of final handover documentation, ensuring that QC documents, test reports, and inspection reports are complete and accurate for project turnover.
    • Evaluate Daily Reports: Review contractor's Daily Construction Reports (DCRs) for accuracy and completeness, ensuring they reflect the day's activities and any issues encountered.
    • Oversee Punch Lists: Create and manage the completion of construction punch lists, coordinating with contractors to address and rectify any outstanding issues before project closeout.
    • Incorporate Quality Techniques: Apply quality techniques and best practices, such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), to minimize construction defects and improve overall project quality.

    What You Need

    • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least two years of experience in one of the following fields: field engineering, installation, startup, commissioning, or quality control activities.
    • Knowledge of Construction Quality: Understanding of the construction quality process, including means and methods, material characteristics, installation procedures, and tolerances, with a focus on multi-discipline codes and standards.
    • Experience with Mission-Critical Facilities: Experience in managing the quality of mission-critical facilities.
    • Code Research Skills: Ability to research and interpret various codes, standards, and specifications related to manufacturing, utility equipment, and material installation.

    • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
    • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in quality documentation and inspections.
