    Are you ready to join a growing team? Facilities Hospital Maintenance is seeking a dedicated and skilled supervisor to oversee our maintenance services team, ensuring the smooth operation of all hospital equipment during overnight hours, while providing excellent customer service.

    As the Major Systems Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the functionality and safety of our hospital equipment.

    You will lead a team of maintenance technicians during overnight shift, ensuring all systems are operating efficiently and addressing any issues that arise promptly.

    This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.


    ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Supervises and coordinates maintenance activities during overnight shifts to ensure all hospital equipment operates effectively and safely.
    • Maintains safety and health standards to ensure compliance with associated authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), The Joint Commission, local, state and federal codes and regulations, and Hospital/University policies.
    • Plans work activities and establishes work schedules and staffing requirements. Schedules and assigns work of maintenance personnel and other assigned staff.

    Performs administrative activities including:

    budgeting and budget management, preparation of special and periodic reports to management, fiscal records, maintenance chargebacks, and other data.

    Initiates and prepares forms and records, including payroll records, work orders, personnel records, material requisitions, and other documents.

    • Attends preconstruction meetings with customers, directors, engineers, and architects to discuss various aspects of projects such as project schedule, jobsite safety precautions, jobsite access, critical material needs, and impact on end users, such as: patients, students, hospital administrators, deans, etc.
    • Monitors work activity levels and ensures proper staffing and other resources are properly allocated.
    • Trains employees in new or revised work methods and procedures and orients new employees.
    • Assists in resolving employee complaints and grievances, which includes attendance at complaint or grievance hearings and meetings. Initiates disciplinary processes when necessary or required.
    • Coordinates the flow of work or services between Facilities departments, and assists in the resolution of inter-and intra-departmental operating problems. Inspects major system equipment, plant operating equipment and University/hospital facilities to ensure that the maintenance objectives of the Division are being fully realized. Monitors the effectiveness of preventive maintenance program and provides information about new equipment and technology for program updates.
    • Conducts regular inspections of equipment to identify potential issues and implements preventive maintenance measures.
    • Serves on the department's leadership team and interview panel.
    • Responds promptly to equipment failures or malfunctions, troubleshooting problems and coordinating repairs as necessary.
    • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventory, and service contracts.
    • Collaborates with other hospital departments to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimizes disruptions to patient care.
    • Implements and enforces safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
    • Attends safety meetings and other required meetings, conferences, lecturers, etc.
    • Stays updated on industry trends and technological advancements in hospital equipment maintenance, recommending improvements and efficiencies where applicable.

    STARTING RATE OF PAY:

    Starting rates are based on our Compensation Guidelines, taking into consideration total relevant, verifiable experience (UAB/UAB Medicine and outside experience), grade minimum, internal equity, and pay ranges.


    Associate's degree in Business, Science or a related field, post-secondary vocation, OR technical two year school diploma, OR an equivalent certification*, AND eight (8) years of experience in commercial or industrial maintenance.

    *Equivalent certification: Master card in plumbing or electrical, HVAC state contractor's license, NICET certification or Senior Mechanical Evaluation and Certification for Healthcare (SrMECH).

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:

    • Valid and up-to-date state regulatory certification for electrical systems, HVAC, instrument control systems, OR medical gas systems required.
    • Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver's license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Proven experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
    • Strong technical knowledge of hospital equipment, including HVAC systems, medical devices, and facility infrastructure.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
    • Effective leadership abilities, with experience in team management and employee development.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff at all levels.
    • Ability to use personal computer, handheld devices, and related equipment/software.
    • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
    • Must be able to work overnight shifts, including weekends, and on-call:
    • Position is designated as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, regardless of the University's closure. Incumbent should be prepared to travel to work during inclement weather, emphasizing the importance of their role in critical situations.
    • Ideal candidate should be in good physical condition to meet the job's physical requirements: possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities that require performing tasks requiring wearing respirator and other personal protective equipment, such as self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), to include:
    • Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
    • Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet
    • Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings in the hospital
    • Working in confined spaces
    • Working within extreme temperature ranges
    • Sitting and staring at a computer screen for long periods of time
