    Position Title: Construction Lead Cost Estimator

    (Lead Project Cost Estimator)

    Start Date: Approximately June 2024

    Client / Program: Los Angeles Unified School District

    Facilities Construction Program Support Services

    Position Location: Los Angeles (Downtown)

    A successful candidate for this position will work on the DACM contract with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Facilities Construction Program.

    Salary Range: $255,000 to $270,000 per annum

    Functions / duties:

    • Lead and supervise a team of Estimators, including assigning daily tasks.
    • Plan and assist in preparing construction cost estimates for buildings or structures based on drawings, outlines, and specifications.
    • Review cost estimates and related materials for securing State and/or federal grants and loans for school aid programs, representing the District in relevant matters.
    • Check accuracy and completeness of construction cost estimates by architects and engineers, compared to District estimates.
    • Resolve discrepancies between cost estimates by architects/engineers and District estimates, negotiating agreements on preliminary construction cost estimates.
    • Analyze contractor bids differing significantly from agreed construction cost estimates, preparing reports accordingly.
    • Review contract cost breakdowns by building contractors, advising on acceptance/rejection for progress payments.
    • Analyze change orders on contracted construction work, approving/rejecting extras or credits.
    • Establish and oversee procedures for plan/specification approvals and project bidding.
    • Develop data maintenance methods for construction cost records and comparisons.
    • Conduct seminars/workshops on construction bidding procedures and cost estimating.
    • Estimate costs for property damages and establish budgets for school building projects.
    • Assist LAUSD branches in related functions.
    • Prepare independent cost estimates of projects for negotiation purposes.
    • Prepare change order estimates for negotiation position establishment.
    • Provide price negotiation support and conduct claim analyses.
    • Review contractor claims/proposals for validity and accountability.
    • Perform assigned related duties.
