Job Description

The Chemistry Department at Virginia Tech is searching for a full-time Pre-Award Grants Coordinator for a position in Blacksburg, VA. The position duties include identification of funding opportunities, providing strong support and guidance to research faculty in response to funding opportunities, coordination of proposal development, including preparation of proposal budgets and other standard grant documentation, and assembly for submission of a high quality, complete, and compliant proposals. For the selected candidate to be most successful, they will have strong experience in and a commitment to professional customer service and team coordination, demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, excellent organizational skills, and strong attention to detail. On-site work strongly preferred, but some remote work may be accommodated.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, science, or related field or equivalent level of
training and/or experience, with demonstrated expertise in budgeting.
- Demonstrated experience with proposal preparation and submission.
- Experience working with electronic fiscal and communications tools, such as Excel and
Word.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures of federal funding agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH,
DoD).
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization abilities, including the ability to work under pressure
with multiple deadlines in a timely and accurate manner.

- Demonstrated ability to work productively with others (e.g. faculty, students, staff, and
Office of Sponsored Programs staff) regardless of a person's background or
characteristics.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
- Experience with federal funding agency Web submissions sites such as
- Experience with management tools such as Banner Finance, HRIS, and Microstrategy.
- Training and/or experience in technical writing and understanding of scientific research.
