- Collaborate with community based therapists and other healthcare providers for effective coordination of service.

- Contribute to planning safe transportation of students with disability.
- Provide consultation regarding emergency evacuation of students with disability.
- Participate with improving school accessibility and planning environmental modification.

PHYSICAL THERAPIST
POSITION SUMMARY:
The physical therapist will implement school board and special education policies and procedures in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) for students with disabilities under the general direction of the Special Education Administrator. The focus of therapy is not rehabilitative in nature, but viewed as a needed educational support for students. The physical therapist will provide physical therapy services to students with disabilities as outlined in the Individual Education Plan (IEP), as enrolled in a WCSD special education program or as referred for assessment. This person will be expected to adhere to the WCSD Professional Domains and Standards for Licensed Employees and report directly to the assigned supervisor of the Physical Therapy Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy Program from an accredited college or university in Physical Therapy.
AND
2. Pass an examination approved by the Physical Therapy Board of Nevada.
Knowledge of: Knowledge of physical therapy principles, theory, methods and evidence based practice; Knowledge of effective practice, clinical decision making, outcomes based intervention and their proper application in the educational environment; Knowledge of areas of practice specific to pediatrics, including child development and specific diagnoses; Knowledge of administrative management practices; Ability to plan, implement, administer and coordinate a physical therapy program, from eligibility determination to exit, within an LEA; Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment tools and interpret results of assessment. Knowledge of current legal mandates, including: Federal and State law, compliance issues, confidentiality requirements, funding procedures and requirements.
Skill at: Ability to plan, coordinate, implement, administer and coordinate a physical therapy program, from eligibility determination to exit, within an LEA; Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment tools and interpret results of assessment; Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in a student's living situation (home, school, and community) that may affect the student's adjustment and ability to make appropriate use of the educational experience; Work cooperatively with students, parents/guardians, peers, administration, and community members; Guide the learning process toward achievement of established IEP goals; Participate as an active member with other faculty and staff; Develop a climate that promotes positive learning conditions; Communicate with parents/guardians regarding plans for educationally related physical therapy services; Communicate effectively both written and orally; Maintain and improve professional competence; Skill in selecting and providing a wide range of intervention strategies and monitoring their effectiveness; Physical ability to execute job responsibilities that may include: transferring and/or lifting students or equipment, managing equipment.
License/Certification: Possess or be able to acquire a Nevada license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (optional). Possess a license(s) issued by the Physical Therapy Board of Nevada (State of Nevada Department of Health).

The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.
New employees will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
Beginning July 1,2023: If you are enrolling in our health insurance plan and submit all proper documentation, you should know that there is no waiting period, your medical, dental, vision and life insurance will become effective on your first contracted work day.
Please be advised health insurance premiums are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
