POSITION :
Program Coordinator - Early Childhood Education Program (FT, Non-Exempt)


REPORTS TO:
Program Manager


COMPENSATION:
$22.00/hr to $27.00/hr depending on skills and experiences


LOCATION:
San Jose, CA


JOB SUMMARY:


We are looking for a bilingual and bicultural (Vietnamese and English) Early Child Development Program Coordinator to support ICAN's community programs.

You will be responsible for children's early learning curriculum, assessments, and development.

You will be helping Vietnamese families to gain more positive parenting skills and bridge the cultural gaps in parenting so they can better support the child to be successful in school and later in life.


The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Program Manager and works alongside other staff in the Family Resource Center (FRC) team to: raise awareness of the importance of the child's formative years; increase support for positive Early Childhood development; and provide skills and assistance to parents and grandparents to better support and advocate for their children.


ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:


  • The mission of ICAN is to inform, engage, and inspire Vietnamese Americans to help raise the next generation of caring leaders through humanitarian programs, culturally responsive social programs, and community based research._

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • 1)_ _Program:_
a) Plan, design, implement and evaluate culturally responsive community education programs focusing on early learning, child development, positive parenting and parent engagement - including facilitating and/or coordinating parenting workshops and other outreach/community events


b) Work with Program Manager and Family Resource Center (FRC) Manager to develop parents' leadership skills so they can become more engaged and better advocates for their children.

c) Provide clients with information, resources and referrals that are culturally, linguistically, and developmentally appropriate for their needs; promote awareness of the importance of the first 5 years.

  • 2)_ _Outreach & external relationship_


a) Conduct outreach efforts through various channels, including (but not limited to) social media, mass-mailing, flyer distributions, faith-based channels, community-based organizations, schools and ethnic media.

Network with other community-based organizations to do cross referrals for programs

b) Organize or participate in community, cultural and outreach events organized by ICAN or by others to promote recognition of ICAN's brand and its services

c) Support management in developing strategic partnership with other agencies, identifying service gaps and advocating for unmet needs to the city, county, and other funders/stakeholders.

  • 3)_ _Evaluation/Reporting_
a) Conduct evaluation to measure program's impact and ensure that program meets the service delivery and outcomes approved by funder

b) Maintain ongoing data collection, submit reports and documentation to funders on time.

c) Assist with conducting and educating parents about Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) and Family Protective Factors as adopted tools to identify the child's developmental needs and assess family's strength (strength-based perspective)

d) Provide meaningful program data showing program impact (for marketing/social media)

a) Participate in the development and implementation of ICAN Strategic Plan

b) Attend training. Participate in other tasks, activities and opportunities as appropriate


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • BA/BS degree in psychology, social work, child development, public health or related field.
  • Experienced in working with culturally diverse communities and families is a requirement.
  • Experience working in nonprofit field and delivering FIRST 5 and other early learning programs, services and curricula preferred.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & SKILLS**:


  • BA/BS degree in the fields of Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, or Public Health.

Bilingual and bicultural in Vietnamese and English. Vietnamese and English speaker, with ability to read and write in Vietnamese and English.

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to plan, organize, prioritize and multitask
  • Knowledge and proficiency of social media, internet, computer programs, e.g., Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Canva, etc.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds as the service is sometimes physical. For example, setting up for events which may require transporting or lifting equipment and materials, e.g., easels, flip charts, refreshments, brochures, chairs, tables, etc.
