Do you love good design? Do you believe the world needs more inspiration these days? Would you like to help make this happen? Letterform Archive is seeking an experienced Marketing, Communications, and Publicity Director to take our revenue and community impact to the next level.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing, Communications, and Publicity Director is responsible for overseeing Letterform Archive's overall marketing, sales, and business development strategy.

They are highly collaborative, creative, data-driven and analytical.

Working with the leadership team, they will develop effective marketing strategies, set revenue and impact objectives for each program, and be accountable for meeting them.

About Letterform Archive:


  • Letterform Archive is a nonprofit center for inspiration, education, and community. We offer handson access to a curated collection of over 100,000 items related to lettering, typography, calligraphy, and graphic design. Every year, we welcome thousands of visitors from across the world, including students, practitioners, and design admirers from every creative background.

In addition to hosting visits and public events, the Archive serves a global community through social media, an online archive featuring state-of-the-art photography, and a book program that draws from the collection as well as publishes new work from its contributors.

We offer courses and workshops in type design, calligraphy, and typography. We also curate exhibitions of our holdings and organize lectures by visiting artists and designers.

As a close-knit team of typophiles, lettering lovers, graphic design fans, and book arts enthusiasts, everyone at the Archive — regardless of role — helps in some way to promote the collection, offering tours, assisting at events, or engaging with the design community at large.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop and manage strategic marketing plan including both short and longterm goals
  • Oversee market research and internal brainstorming to develop product refinements, segmentation, positioning, targeting, and messaging
  • Implement and manage marketing budget, including payback analyses of marketing investments
  • Develop pricing strategies to optimize revenue and market penetration
  • Develop and measure key metrics including user acquisition, conversion rates, engagement rates, satisfaction and renewal rates; lead monthly review of marketing results
  • Ensure that all marketing communications project the Archive's unique brand "voice"
  • Establish content marketing strategy and goals encompassing blog, newsletter, and social media
  • Design, plan and execute effective digital and traditional marketing campaigns
  • Collaborate on development of shop and ecommerce strategy
  • Assist with event planning (as needed)
  • Promote an environment of metricsdriven improvement in marketing effectiveness, methods, costs, and results
  • Stay up to date with the latest technology & best practices, as well as marketing strategies of comparable organizations
  • Supervise the Marketing Manager and Social Media Manager

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role, including supervising staff
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in planning, managing, and executing multichannel, multisegment marketing campaigns, both traditional and digital
  • Experience with SEO, social media, online advertising, and a CRM
  • Experience developing marketing forecasts, strategies, budgets, and business plans
  • Good understanding of accounting principles; highly skilled using spreadsheets for planning and analysis
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Flexibility and comfort in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet delivery deadlines
  • Willing to tackle a variety of projects, including new challenges
  • Bachelor's degree

Ideal Qualifications:


  • An advanced degree in marketing or a related field
  • Experience with print campaigns
  • Experience working with archives, museums, or special collections
  • Knowledge of or deep interest in lettering, typography, graphic design, and related printing arts

Physical Demands:


  • The Marketing, Communications, & Publicity Director will regularly be required to perform deskbased computer tasks, including using a computer screen for long periods of time, typing, and making phone calls.
  • They may also occasionally be required to move items weighing up to 10 pounds; push and maneuver a fullyloaded book truck weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • The Archive will provide reasonable accommodations to an employee with a disability who requires accommodations to perform the essential functions of their job.
