Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College credit which includes six semester hours per year in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
Completion of a two year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering will substitute for two years of the required experience.
Training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or parks building and grounds work will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.
NOTES:
Qualifying mechanical trades include Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, Trades Apprentice doing mechanic work, Machinist, Mobile Equipment Master Mechanic, and Mobile Equipment Overhaul Mechanic.
Experience as construction superintendent, project manager or project leader in construction involving no hands-on trades experience will not be considered qualifying.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Maintenance Superintendent by lack of responsibility for supervision of subordinate Foreman.
Examples of Work
The incumbent ensures operational ability of each marine floodgate and complex structure.
Inspections and maintenance of these complex structures is performed on a weekly basis and includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Coordinates and assigns subordinates in the inspection, operation, and maintenance of complex flood control devices, equipment, and electric controls and generates inspection log sheets.
Inputs progress in maintenance software, generates daily work orders, and generates required reports.

Responsible for the overall condition and operational ability of all complex structures including assignment of personnel to workstations as necessary to complete operations.
Obtains purchase orders and requisitions adequate inventories of supplies, materials, and equipment as required for preventive maintenance and repairs.

During times of emergency, i.e., hurricanes, storms, or other conditions which could lead to flooding, is assigned temporary supervisory responsibilities over the electricians, equipment operators, or roads, and groundskeepers.

Maintains personnel records on all subordinates, including a productivity file on each employee. This contains attendance and leave records, periodic performance reviews and documentation of training, disciplinary actions, commendations, etc.

Performs any and all other related duties as needed or assigned by other higher-ranking administrative personnel, such as Facility Maintenance Manager A, Operations and Maintenance Director, etc.
Operate the
Incident Command Center Operations:
open and close the sector gate for boating traffic according to criteria set by The Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan; prepare log sheets; report hourly tide gage readings to the Emergency Operations Center; verify that all electrical and mechanical equipment is operational; timely report problems or threats to the Levee District Police
NOTE:
Incumbent is required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities by being on 24-hour call.
Incumbent is required to report for work and remain there in case of emergency (hurricanes, storms, or other conditions which could lead to flooding) until such emergency has subsided and employees are released through orders of Operations Director.
Place and remove stop logs during high water emergencies
