SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to manage the activities and transaction processing in alignment with the MTA Transformation strategy and a vision for a single process within General and Technical Accounting.
The General Accounting/Fixed Asset Supervisor is responsible for managing team workload and resources, compliance with MTA Accounting timeline and deliverables and supervising, training, and developing team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage team workload, resources and schedules to deliver timely, quality accounting services for a single process within General & Technical Accounting.
- Perform / Process / Review bank reconcilaitions, journal entries and account analysis.
- Data validation and maintenance.
- Transaction entry in PeopleSoft and service request management tool.
- Inquiry documentation, research, and resolution that meets customer expectations.
- MTA and Accounting policy, practice and procedure compliance.
- Cyclical and period end processing activity support.
- Ensure all month end and year end transactions and review are done in a timely matter.
- Work with External Auditors to provide documentation and respond to inquiries for audits.
- Project activity support including requirements gathering, functional design & configuration, testing, training design, development & delivery, postproduction support.
- Issue management and resolution.
- Share Accounting knowledge with team.
- Track and report status of work for team.
- Maintain client in the team including performance, staffing levels and competencies.
- Maintain appropriate level of process, functional and technical knowledge and participate in training to continue to develop such knowledge.
- Resolve employee relations issues as appropriate and create a positive working environment.
- Generate reports to manage, monitor and provide Accounting metrics.
- Identify, implement and manage continuous improvement activites.
- Identify, document, review and approve input to knowledge management tool.
- Other duties as required.
- Indepth knowledge of Finance processes, specifically in General and Technical Accounting.
- Working knowledge and use of PeopleSoft or related database software to perform and support process activites.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and processes.
- Effective written, interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and activities simultaneously with adherence to deadlines.
- Effective analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong understanding and experience with performance metrics.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to manage individual and team assignments.
- Strong team building skills that promote cooperation and communication among teams to develop more efficient operations.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Bachelors degree with relevant experience in Business or related field.
- Minimum 5 years experience in General Accounting.
- Minimum 3 years in managing/ montoring employees or processes.
Preferred:
- Understanding of MTA Accounting policies, and procedures as it applies to monthly & year end close process.
- Familiarity with performance metrics and ability to meet identified targets.
- Working knowledge of service request management tools.
