- Continuously research and internally communicate emerging environmental sustainability trends, evolving the company program to meet public and investor expectations
- Develop, refine, and measure progress toward company targets across a variety of sustainability topics (e.g. energy usage, water use, waste generation)
- Prepare agendas, reading materials, and focus areas for internal stakeholders
- Support the engineering project discovery, scoping, proposal, funding, and execution process
- Provide technical expertise on key issues related to environmental and impact assessment and on sustainability risks in the design, preparation, implementation and supervision of operations taking into consideration best industry practices and standards
- Manage and conduct environmental sustainability due diligence
- Ensure the applicable environmental sustainability policies, guidelines and project-specific requirements, and has the necessary commitment
- Partner with internal R&D and Technology organizations to enhance sustainability of products
- Work collaboratively across the organization with departments including operations, engineering, communications, technology, legal, purchasing, and finance
- Distill key strategic themes, ideas, and opportunities into tangible executable initiatives
- Consistently promote sustainability work internally and externally
- Develop partnerships with appropriate third parties to identify and execute environmental sustainability projects
- Interfaces with a variety of company functions such as EHS, Manufacturing, Procurement, Distribution, Finance, Legal, Marketing, and Product Development to assure coordination and alignment on improvements / compliance / while implementing initiatives and projects
- Define a detailed progress plan (roadmap) for environmental sustainability, and acts as a facilitator removing possible roadblocks, and follows progress.
- Ensure the success for implementation of key accountabilities through metrics, reporting, and strategic plans
- A minimum of 5 years combined experience in engineering, environmental, social and sustainability program implementation with public firms across industry sectors in a best-in-class global manufacturing environment, ideally in a highly regulated manufacturing environment like chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biomaterial, medical devices, and materials industries
- Proven track record of driving continuous improvement and delivering results
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking, including financial analysis / modeling to assess strategic options, and developing creative solutions to complex problems
- Experience in developing business cases and high-level program implementation plans including milestones and progress measurement
- Organized, detail oriented and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize to meet deadlines
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Negotiation skills and the ability to influence without authority are required
- The ability to effectively manage projects and timelines to meet schedules is required.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Environmental Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the corporate strategy and implementation of projects aligned with organizational sustainability goals applicable to Axalta Operations and EHS.
The candidate should have broad knowledge of best engineering practices, projects scope definition, and projects field execution. This position requires demonstrated experience within chemicals, coatings, or related manufacturing industries and possess strong skills and competencies including the ability to dive into details, collaborate cross-functionally, demonstrated professional experience as an project engineering leader at a publicly traded company or lead corporate environmental sustainability initiatives that tie to strategic business objectives. Key traits that will make this candidate successful are the ability to influence, empower and mentor manufacturing site personnel, the ability to work autonomously, demonstrate diplomacy, and a strong ability to work towards multiyear objectives.
The Leader will collaborate with departments across the organization to execute innovative partnerships that advance the sustainability of the business and engagement with key stakeholders.
The Environmental Project Engineer will formulate recommendations and requirements for action and incorporate these into applicable internal and related documentation to facilitate proper corporate governance and will report to Axalta's Global Environmental Competency Leader
