    The University of Texas Institute for Geophysics seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to join a vibrant research program in Earthquake Hazards and Fault Dynamics.

    The successful candidate will pursue research on the earthquake source, including fundamental physical and mechanistic aspects of faulting and earthquakes, as well as seismic hazard applications.

    Research interests aligned with ongoing studies at UTIG, including on megathrust system dynamics from field to lab to computational geoscience perspectives, are considered an advantage.

    The Postdoctoral Fellow will have the opportunity to work with PIs with expertise spanning from experimental rock mechanics, to geophysical imaging, to theoretical and computational modeling.

    UTIG, which is part of the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin, is known for research excellence, integrative science efforts, and international field programs in geophysics (solid earth, marine, polar), climate science, planetary science, and energy geoscience ) and hosts an intellectually active community of scientists.

    The appointment is for one year with possibility of extension for a second year.

    Applicants are encouraged to identify a potential research project in light of ongoing efforts at UTIG and the Jackson School at large.

    Successful applicants may take up residence at UTIG as early as January 1, 2024. Salary is $65,000 per year, and appointees are eligible for UT benefits.

    Required Qualifications

    Ph.
    D. in Geophysics, Geosciences, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field within the last three years.

    Preferred Qualifications


    Experience in laboratory experimentation focused on the investigation of rock, sediment, or soil deformation and rheology; friction; hydrological properties; and/or ultrasonic measurements.

    Familiarity with analysis of laboratory, drilling, or other geophysical data, and/or computational approaches to the study of coupled deformation and fluid flow.
