Job DescriptionJob Description
Responsibilities:
Oversee the operations of microbiology and chemistry laboratories, including managing personnel and programs.
Assist in enhancing and periodically reviewing the facility's food safety and quality programs.
Serve as a substitute for both the Quality Assurance Lead Technician and the Quality Assurance Manager in their absence.
Conduct training, supervision, and evaluation of Quality Assurance Laboratory technicians.
Execute microbial and chemical analyses of food products to ensure safety and quality.
Regularly update and maintain laboratory manuals and documentation.
Ensure laboratory proficiency through testing and maintaining necessary certifications.
Manage communication with the USDA FSIS, including the provision of required documentation.
Coordinate the preparation and dispatch of samples to external laboratories and USDA AMS for testing.
Maintain detailed records of samples sent for commodity and export testing.
Address inquiries from employees about food safety and quality.
Fulfill customer information requests promptly and accurately.
Participate in the upkeep of the environmental monitoring program within the facility.
Support management in analyzing test results, data trending, and during product/process investigations.
Aid in the preparation and management of third-party audits.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Microbiology or a closely related field is highly preferred.
Prior experience with SQF protocols and HACCP programs with at least 1 year of experience.
A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in a similar role.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Proficient in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Strong attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Well-developed analytical skills, essential for problem-solving and decision-making.
