As the Travel Support Specialist for Connect Transit you will coordinate and perform activities related to the travel training program for individuals, including seniors, persons with disabilities, school programs, and the general population by designing and conducting both one-on-one and group trainings for Connect riders until they feel comfortable using our services.


Wages:

$ $21.63, dependent on qualifications.

Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Design and present oneonone and group travel training for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, students aged 11 and above, and other individuals, to prepare them to use all Connect services, including trip planning, boarding and deboarding, landmark recognition, street crossing, safety skills, emergency awareness, stop location, and use of system with a mobility device.
  • Schedule individual travel training, evaluate progress and followup with individuals.
  • Design individual travel training based on assessment of client mobility and identification of client travel needs, travel routes and site assessments.
  • May schedule trips with clients to obtain applicable passes.
  • Coordinate pickup and meet client at prearranged location for education purposes.
  • Model appropriate travel behavior, instruct client in emergency procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to develop and conduct public presentations at workshops and community events at a variety of locations while promoting Connect services and answer questions from the public.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to identify and develop materials (physical or digital) to aid in travel training with individuals or groups.
  • Attend community events as assigned to provide information regarding Connect's services and travel training program.
  • Receive training referrals to expand opportunities.
  • Prepare correspondence for potential clients and current users of the travel training program.
  • Set up and maintain computerized and manual files related to the travel training program.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines in handling patient information while providing support to department supervisor by engaging in multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:


  • Minimum High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Experience working in an educational or social service environment preferred.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License.
  • Acceptable driving record (No serious traffic or license violations within the last five years).
  • Successful completion of a federal background check and preemployment drug test.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Ability to:
  • Work evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Effectively teach learners of all ages, learning, and physical abilities.
  • Become First Aid and CPR certified.
  • Learn regulations regarding safe practices, company procedures and government regulations regarding safety.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities.
  • Learn regulations regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Learn Connect Transit's processes, policies, and procedures and articulate appropriate responses to questions regarding them.
  • Read and understand maps, street guides, timetables, and policies.
  • Learn and utilize transit related software and hardware systems.
  • Work both independently and in a group setting.
  • Operate calmly in high stress situations, including dealing with conflict.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other transit system departments, collective bargaining unit members, outside contractors, vendors, and other government agencies.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and oral.
  • Perform job indoors, outdoors, on the road, and in inclement weather conditions.
  • Meet the physical strength, agility, and dexterity requirements to perform the work of this position.
