    The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is a proficient technical professional who carries out direct resident care tasks under the clinical supervision of the Occupational Therapist.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide occupational therapy treatments to residents following treatment plans outlined by the Occupational Therapist.
    • Assist the Occupational Therapist during tests, evaluations, and intricate treatment procedures.
    • Observe, record, and report to the therapist the conditions, reactions, and responses associated with assigned duties.
    • Maintain daily treatment records and record progress notes on residents as instructed by the therapist.
    • Assist with admission screening.
    • Collaborate with family members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals under the guidance of the therapist.
    • Contribute to the care of the occupational therapy department and its equipment.
    • Support the Occupational Therapist in in-service programs and other meetings as delegated by the Occupational Therapist.
    • Engage in ongoing education opportunities related to the discipline and responsibilities to stay updated in the field.
    • Follow Heritage Healthcare's regulatory and professional standards and guidelines.
    • Attend and actively participate in rehabilitation team conferences regarding resident progress, issues, or requirements.
    • Adhere to company and facility protocols and take part in facility quality enhancement and safety initiatives.
    • Undertake other assigned duties.
    • Understand various payers' reimbursement procedures and efficiently allocate therapy resources based on resident goals and outcomes related to discharge planning.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in OBRA regulations, HIPAA, Local Coverage Determination, and guidelines for third party reimbursements.
    • Uphold the company's dedication to Compassionate Care; present a professional demeanor to instill trust in the rehabilitation program.
    • Carry out tasks independently and identify situations where direct supervision is necessary; be ready to assist others willingly.
    • Maintain the expected productivity level as discussed and required for your role at the specific facility/facilities.

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
    • Hold a current license or qualify for licensure as per state statutes.
    • Prior experience in a setting catering to a similar age/type of resident population as served by this facility is preferred.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to comprehend and follow the Occupational Therapist's instructions and the facility's policies and procedures.
    • Capability to safely carry out the following activities, sometimes for extended periods:
      • Standing: Maintaining an upright position on the feet, especially for extended periods.
      • Pushing: Applying pressure and exerting force against an object to move it forward or away, up to 35 lbs.
      • Lifting: Lifting objects independently up to 50 lbs of force. May require lifting over 50 lbs with assistance.
      • Stooping: Bending the body forward and down from the waist, hips, and knees, sometimes for a prolonged period.
      • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) away from the body in any direction.
      • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falls when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or moving surfaces.
