    CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:
    The Department of Corrections has a vacancy for a Juvenile Community Corrections Officer in Region 1, Portland, ME. This advertisement is open to Maine Department of Corrections employees as well as all outside candidates.


    JOB DESCRIPTION:


    This work involves the supervision and case management of juveniles referred to the Maine Department of Corrections by law enforcement agencies.

    A Juvenile Community Corrections Officer's (JCCO) duty will include assessing risks and needs, provide supportive intervention, and the supervision of juvenile clients on probation and other forms of community supervision.

    Duties also include pre-disposition investigation reports, interstate compact investigations, formulating community release plans, and developing case plan goals.

    A JCCO will also make decisions relative to the detention, diversion, court action and disposition, release/discharge of juvenile clients from supervision by empowering change and restoring lives.


    REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:
    Investigates juvenile delinquency cases and matters concerning probation and/or community reintegration using evidence-based principles and practices to report findings.

    Researches and writes institutional and court ordered investigation reports to present information needed for making case decisions.

    Researches and completes pre-disposition, post-disposition, community reintegration, and interstate compact investigations to provide information.


    Compiles and records information on juvenile clients and their activities in order monitor and document compliance with conditions of supervision.

    Records and submits reports to management and the courts as part of statutory requirements.


    Prepares, monitors, reviews, and revises individual strengths-based case plans and refers them to appropriate education, employment, community, and treatment programs/resources to promote their rehabilitation and mitigate identified criminogenic factors.

    Ensure that all conditions of supervision are understood by the juvenile client

    Provide appropriate level of supervision based on risks and needs assessment.

    Respond to law enforcement requests for detention of juvenile clients, utilizing the detention risk assessment.

    Arrests and transports juvenile clients to detention facilities or alternative placements.

    Arranges and monitors for community/public service work, restitution, as part of conditions of supervision.

    Collaborates with federal, state, local, and community agencies, to expand and enhance service delivery systems for juvenile clients.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Behavior Sciences, or Social Sciences, or a closely related field (4 years).

    • AND
    • Six (6) months of experience in youth counseling and case management or juvenile probation/parole work or juvenile law enforcement activities.
    • OR in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree
    • At least 4 years and 6 months of equivalent combination of directly related education, experience, and training.


    Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience working with adolescents and families involved with the juvenile justice system.
