- Counsels most populations of undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni on career options and opportunities, including those customized for students within the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines.
- Provides individual and group counseling and consultation to students with academic and career field interests through standard appointments and/or brief consultations.
- Guides students on translating their skills into various industries or helping them plan and apply for graduate and professional programs.
- Helps provide guidance to departments/colleges/schools on providing resources to meet students' career needs.
- Develop and maintain effective and productive relationships with academic advisors, faculty, and other key administrative staff.
- Serves as liaison to non-academic (student service) units and student organizations across campus as an informational resource and to provide special, customized programming
- Attends and actively contributes to staff and counseling meetings.
- Pursues professional development opportunities which will enhance their understanding of trends as they relate to their constituency and the field in general, and building their skills as a counselor.
- Participate in unit-wide initiatives, events, committees, and projects.
- Supports and conducts customized workshops and programs
- Conducts needs assessments, and collaborates with teammates in program design and development.
- Support marketing and outreach programs to promote programs and services.
- Strong knowledge of career counseling as it's used to address a broad range of career/employment issues, such as career decision making and job search techniques using various career counseling approaches.
- Experience designing and delivering career-related workshops and programs.
- Knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and employment information sources as well as the application process for graduate school.
- Experience and proficiency with incorporating the use of technology to deliver career services.
- Understanding and ability to work with and serve individuals from diverse backgrounds utilizing cross-cultural counseling skills.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and organizational skills.
- A Master's Degree in Counseling, Career Development, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field, or equivalent education/experience.
- 1+ years experience working with students within higher education.
- This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.

Berkeley Career Engagement (BCE) plays a critical role in preparing and supporting students launching their careers. We help undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent alumni make informed decisions about their futures by providing comprehensive resources, programs, career counseling, externships and internships, and employment and professional school / graduate school options. Our Vision is to cultivate a university-wide culture of career readiness, where every student engages in meaningful experiences, has a supportive professional community, and is empowered to achieve lifelong career success. We invite you to join Berkeley Career Engagement at UC Berkeley as a member of a dynamic team of 35 people, providing innovative and comprehensive career services. We work with a wide spectrum of students, including undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni. We are looking for an early career individual who wants to develop their student-facing skills and grow in their career counseling acumen. While this position is housed on the L&S team, the individual hired will meet with students across multiple colleges. This professional will collaborate with the larger Career Education team of 20 people on larger initiatives, but mainly focus on providing 1:1 career counseling to students. Ideal candidates can operate as a generalist while understanding the needs of students who study letters and sciences disciplines.
