This position is hosted by Hunger Free America and AmeriCorps in partnership with the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County (FBSBC).


About Anti-Hunger Corps VISTA Program:


Hunger Free America (HFA), in conjunction with some of the nation's most effective anti-hunger and poverty organizations, is entering its fifth year of the Anti-Hunger Corps (AHC).

This program engages VISTA members and partnering organizations in moving families beyond the soup kitchen by breaking down barriers and providing improved access to healthful, nutritious foods.

The AHC VISTA program aims to address hunger, poverty, and build the capacity of the agencies that address these issues.

Members will assist unemployed and under-employed people obtain job training, job placement, and financial literacy services; improve access to food from the government and nonprofit sources for targeted populations in particular and food-insecure people in general; enable residents of food deserts to access healthier foods through farmers markets and community gardens; more low-income children to obtain free school breakfasts and summer meals; effective nonprofit groups fighting hunger and poverty to raise more money and recruit and manage more volunteers, particularly high-impact and skilled volunteers.


JOB FUNCTION


The Communications and Volunteer Capacity Building Coordinator VISTA will work directly with Director of Marketing to create a monthly donor giving program, support the development of storytelling practices, and assist with the development of marketing strategies.

They will also work with the Community Engagement Manager to assist in the research and development of both a volunteer leadership and workforce development program.

This includes collaborating with partners, conducting research, developing communication materials, delivering training, and utilizing social media for program visibility.

The role encompasses project coordination, research and evaluation, program development, and administrative tasks to support and enhance food security in Santa Barbara County.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing and Communications (60%)

  • Monthly Donor Giving Program
a. Create project plan and develop KPIs

b. Develop marketing collateral and e-blast language


  • Develop Foodbank Storytelling SOP and best practices
a. Attend various events for training purposes

b. Create project and develop SOP for collection and authorization procedures

c. Content collection and sharing guidelines


  • Develop and implement e-blast segmentation plan and SOP
a. Review current marketing and communication practices

b. Develop project plan and build segments for next year


Volunteer Operations (40%)

  • Assist in creation of the volunteer leadership program
a. Attend various volunteer and outreach events to see how they operate

b. Use this training and best practices research to build training program for volunteers

c. Research volunteer leadership programs and establish what this will look like for FBSBC

d. Create training documents, operating procedures and a succession plan

e. Identify, recruit and train Lead Volunteers who will eventually be able to take over the leadership of events


  • Workforce Program Research
a. Research workforce programs to help create capacity within the Foodbank team

b. Work with leaders in FBSBC to establish basic needs

c. Build plan for implementation of workforce program


IV. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or 2 years equivalent work experience in a relevant field such as nutrition, public health, or social sciences preferred.
  • Experience with customer service, volunteer management or nonprofit organizations

V. SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks and requests.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and across departments in an organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
  • Must be located in Santa Barbara County and able to attend events as needed.
  • Ability to selfdirect and complete tasks independently with mínimal oversight.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • General computer, tech, and software proficiency.
  • Passion for promoting food security, community wellbeing, and equitable access to resources.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
