- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and KPI's.
- Oversee and lead all financial and project accounting activities.
- Coordinate and lead the annual various audit processes, including financial audit, IDOT audit, benefit plan audits, and worker's compensation audit. Coordinate and communicate with auditors, CEO, COO, and the Board of Directors regarding any necessary changes.
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the company's financial status.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Maintain structure for contract and project financial management; ensure project billing and collections is adhered to and that financial data and collection schedule is adhered to; ensure financial data and cash flow are steady to support operational requirements.
- Coordinate, analyze and manage the annual ESOP valuation and contribution process. Work closely with external valuation team and ESOP recordkeeper to ensure data and calculations are provided and appropriate. Work with ESOP Advisory Council to ensure stock price, employee statements and vesting information is provided in a timely manner.
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department's overall policy and procedure manual.
- Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to leadership team, the board of directors, and employees.
- Monitor compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Coordinate closely with human resources team to ensure seamless collaboration for payroll and benefits. Ensure wages and payroll taxes are properly accounted.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred
- 10+ years' experience as a senior-level accountant and/or prior Controller experience
- Experience within the AEC or professional services industry is highly desired
- Deltek Vantagepoint experience preferred
- Strong understanding of finance and tax law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to lead team, direct, and supervise
- Work is performed in an office environment.
- Moderate physical demands, including sitting, standing, or walking. The role includes administrative and clerical work that may require light physical effort.
- Strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Vision should be sufficient to see and read with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents. Hearing sufficient to converse in the normal audio range with or without correction.

The Controller role is responsible for directing the accounting and finance activities for Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. You will be responsible for managing the accounting team, developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Controller will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will work closely with senior leadership to guide financial decisions and improve financial performance.
