Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.

- Performs intermediate protective service work in fire suppression and providing emergency medical treatment including, but not limited to, medical emergencies, trauma emergencies, and patient transports. Plans, organizes, directs and controls fire/rescue and medical service functions within applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations; does related work as required. Work is performed under emergency conditions and involves an element of personal danger. Work is performed under regular supervision of a Fire Officer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:

Drives and operates fire apparatus, or other specialized department vehicles.
Responds to alarms, and assists in entry, ventilating, and salvage work.
Observes patient responses and maintains accurate and complete records.
Prepares various reports and other documents.
Ensures that equipment is fully prepared and functional at all times, and that adequate supplies are available for treatment.
Performs general maintenance and upkeep of apparatus, equipment, and fire station.
Assists with fire prevention inspections and pre-fire planning.
Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of elementary physics, chemistry and mechanics as applied to fire suppression.
Knowledge of emergency medical care to the EMT level.
Knowledge of fire suppression and rescue practices, fire prevention, principles, methods, and practices; local codes related to emergencies; state statutes, city ordinances.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation.
Knowledge of the street system and geography of the City.
Ability to operate medical equipment.
Ability to perform fire suppression and rescue activities.
Ability to perform pre-hospital emergency medical care to the EMT level of certification.
Ability to read and interpret manuals, policies and other documents.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates and the general public.
Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
