    Description


    The incumbent is responsible for providing quantitative and analytical support to the Clinical Operations Department of the University of Virginia Physicians Group for the purposes of business planning, budgeting, and operational and financial management. The incumbent will work closely with the leadership in Clinical Operations, and other Health System leadership, and is responsible for business planning, financial and operational analysis, and the accumulation, analysis, and reporting of Clinical Operations metrics and other industry data.
    • Analyze current operations and revenue cycle to identify changes that will enhance financial or operational performance.
    • Work with Clinical Operations , and UPG leadership, to develop, recommend and update business plans and strategic plans to support UPG and Health System goals for clinical activities, new ventures, and other business opportunities.
    • Help develop or review pro formas for new faculty and new lines of business.
    • Assist in operational implementation of process changes and business plans, particularly the preparation of supporting finance functions and information systems.
    • Prepare and Review physician productivity, compensation, and other metrics against industry benchmarks.
    • Develop and maintain customized management reports.
    • Perform systematic review of internal reports to trend performance.
    • Pull billing information from appropriate sources to complete ad-hoc analyses.
    • Educate Licensed Independent Practitioners and Managers in effectively interpreting and utilizing reports for managing finances and operations.
    • Communicate and present high-level quantitative analyses to the University of Virginia Physicians Group senior leadership, physician leadership, LIPs and practice managers, clearly communicating the strengths and limitations of the data.
    • Participate in operations management forums.
    • Work on joint teams within Clinical Operations and with other University of Virginia Physicians Group staff to resolve billing and collection issues, and implement changes as necessary.
    • Develop working knowledge in one or more functional areas to support internal analysis and projects.
    • Maintain an understanding of the University of Virginia Physicians Group billing and collections operation, including operational policies and procedures, and how they are implemented in the billing system.
    • Obtain knowledge in the areas of national health care trends, third-party reimbursement, and physician billing and collections.
    • Participate in the review or creation of policies and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of clinical operations.
    • Lead Clinical Operations leadership in developing budgets for clinical operations.
    • Lead Clinical Operations in meeting budget process schedules, goals, and objectives.
    • Review monthly financial information to identify and analyze management issues and explain budget variances.
    • Routinely summarize and report financial status of clinical operations to management, physician leadership, and University of Virginia Physicians Group senior management.
    • As needed, coordinate with Culpeper Regional Hospital to understand, analyze, and offer recommendations regarding the Culpeper area Regional Primary Care practices full financial health.
    • Assess professional staffing levels, productivity, and compensation to provide feedback on adequacy, benchmark comparisons and performance against budget.
    • Develop methodology for measurements upon which the assessment of financial incentives may be paid.
    • Work on joint teams within University of Virginia Physicians Group staff to resolve financial reporting issues and implement changes as necessary.
    • Pull financial information from various sources to complete ad-hoc analyses.
    • Work with Culpeper Regional Hospital and Healthcare Partners to ensure a comprehensive wind down of CMA business entity.
    • Participates in professional development activities to keep current with health care trends and practices.
    • Completes and manages other special projects as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Education:

    • Bachelors Degree with concentration in business, accounting, finance, health care administration or mathematics or equivalent education and experience.

    Experience:

    • Three to four years' quantitative analysis or three years in equivalent position and relevant experience.
    • Two years general office experience, to include customer service, report creation and generation.
    • Prefer knowledge of data analysis methodologies and report writing software.
    • Prefer knowledge of health care industry, physician billing practices, and financial management concepts.

    Licensure:

    • Successful completion of intermediate Microsoft Access within first six months, if necessary.

    Skills:

    • Intermediate level of microcomputer proficiency, including working knowledge of spreadsheet and relational database software programs.
    • 10-key and typing proficiency.
    • Knowledge of IDX billing system preferred.
    • Proficiency with Precision

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
