Position Overview:

Maintain Program integrity, policy adherence, participant engagement, and promote the nutritional norms and standards established by NYS WIC Program.

Determine categorical, income and residential eligibility of all applicants, and to serve as a resource for the Program and the community.

This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Ryan Health.


Essential Functions:


  • Screen applicants to correctly determine categorical eligibility, income and residential eligibility for WIC Program participation according to NYS WIC Program guidelines.
  • Verify identity of participants, authorized representatives, caregivers, or proxies before proceeding with any service onsite or via telephone.
  • Correctly and efficiently operate the WIC Program's electronic computer system in accordance with NYSDOH policy.
  • Adheres to all NYSDOH WIC Program directives and executes all program support functions, including scanning of required documentation, generation of letters, documentation of anthropometry and hemoglobin, and scheduling participants.
  • Offer the opportunity to register to vote at each certification and upon learning of an address change and ensure that the signature and other required information is obtained. Tally all voter forms and submit and maintain voter registration transmittal forms weekly.
  • Work to provide optimal customer service that addresses the participant's need. This includes providing language services as needed or obtaining appropriate waivers.
  • Perform all clerical duties such as answering phones, copying, faxing, filing, shredding, maintaining supplies, and other assignments as needed.
  • Inform participants and Authorized Users of their Rights and Responsibilities, before initiating a certification or issuing benefits, and obtaining signatures.
  • Confirm with participants at each visit that their contact information is accurate and up to date.
  • Accurately obtain and record anthropometric measurements for WIC participants as required by New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) policy. Enter all anthropometric measurements and required notes in participant's electronic chart.
  • Appropriately determine and obtain blood work as required and ensure that lab/release forms are completed, signed and scanned for nonRyan patients. Enter results and notes into participant's electronic chart.
  • Contact participants who have missed or need future WIC appointments, taking every opportunity to increase program caseload by appropriately rescheduling appointments.
  • Assist the nutritionists, the WIC director, WIC site coordinator, outreach coordinator and breastfeeding coordinator in facilitated group nutrition discussions, breastfeeding events, and outreach activities both onsite and in the community.
  • Attend all meetings and/or training sessions as required.
  • Immediately report any problems or unusual occurrences to supervisor.
  • Other special projects/assignments as needed.

Minimum Experience and Skills Required:


  • 12 years of customer service experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

High School Diploma or GED***
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience in a healthrelated field

Minimal Training Time:

Probationary period: 3 Months
