Bergenfield Public Library seeks a Part-Time Janitor, starting June 1, 2024


TYPICAL TASKS INCLUDE:

• Cleans rooms, offices, lunch rooms, community rooms, public areas, and restrooms.
• Dusts, cleans, and polishes furniture, fixtures, woodwork, shelving, and equipment.
• Washes and cleans windows, sweeps, washes, strips, waxes, and polishes floors, and sweeps and vacuums rugs.
• Gathering and disposing of refuse and recycling
• Scrubbing and cleaning restrooms including mirrors, wash basins, commodes, etc.
• Restocking bath tissue, towel and soap dispensers
• Maintains inventory of janitorial supplies and requests replacements in a timely fashion
• Setting alarms and locking doors and ensuring building security when closed to the public
• Performing related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of procedures, materials, and tools used in washing, waxing, vacuuming, and polishing wood, tile, cement, linoleum, glass, and other woodwork, furniture, and fixtures.
• Knowledge of use of and minor adjustment to sweepers, vacuum cleaners, floor waxers, polishers, and other equipment.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions;
• Perform manual work
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy are a must.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma or equivalent, along with relevant custodial and building maintenance work experiences is required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
• Ability to regularly use or operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms
• Ability to lift and carry objects of up to 20 lbs., push and pull heavy objects of up to 50 lbs with the use of trucks, carts, or dollies
• Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps.

SALARY:
Starting salary of $17.00 per hour with PTO beginning after a 3 month probationary period.
