- Inspects, services, and repairs heavy trucks, trailers, and other equipment.
- Diagnose and repair of complex electronically controlled diesel engines, modern electrical systems, mobile electronic systems, air and braking systems, and complex hydraulic systems.
- Inspect vehicle systems, perform preventative maintenance, and diagnosis and repair of failed components on the vehicle's body, chassis, and/or auxiliary systems.
- Utilize fleet maintenance software to accurately document work performed.
- Communicate will all levels of fleet operations to ensure repairs are completed to the customer's satisfaction.
- Interpret manuals, electrical diagrams, and diagnostic software.
- Performs basic tire services including flat tire repair and tire replacement as needed.
- Inspects city vehicles for compliance with state safety standards.
- Performs custodial, pick-up and delivery chores as necessary.
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
- Formal Education/Experience
- Minimum two years' experience at an automotive or heavy truck dealership.
- Formal education which includes basic arithmetic and/or business math.
- Graduation from high school plus experience and understanding in the operation of an automotive, truck, or industrial maintenance facility.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Associate degree in automotive technology.
- 5+ years of basic understanding in the operation of an automotive, truck, or industrial maintenance facility.
- Class B CDL
- NC Emission/Safety Inspection License.
- Acuity, far - clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see from a distance when administering and observing employment tests, operating a motor vehicle, or addressing an audience.
- Acuity, near - clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see work-related business documents close at hand.
- Depth perception - Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Field of Vision - the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span of area.

Description
Job DescriptionThis is a mid-level training position. Technician will be "in production" and working independently most of the time. Looking for a heavy truck technician.
He/she will still work under the guidance of senior level technicians as needed, but also make repairs and decisions on their own as much as possible.
This person will have gained knowledge of our equipment, procedures, business practices and expectations, and perform work tasks of a Fleet Technician I.
Must have a commitment to life-long learning to keep pace with new technology. Work is performed under the supervision of the Shop Foreman.Essential Tasks
NC Emission/Safety Inspection License or be able to obtain in 180 days.
NC Emission/Safety Inspection License or obtain within 6 months from date of hire date.
