    Compliance Specialist Role at Northwest Federal Credit Union



    The Compliance Specialist is in charge of ensuring that the credit union complies with policies, laws, and regulations. They act as a link with trade associations to handle regulatory matters. This position assists different business areas by offering guidance to confirm that their activities adhere to applicable laws, rules, and credit union policies, requiring expertise in Credit Union/Banking regulations.



    Responsibilities

    • Maintain a deep understanding of credit union compliance regulations, analyze emerging trends and changes in laws and regulations, and monitor compliance with credit union activities.
    • Assist in regulatory reviews to ensure business units comply with regulations, document findings, and communicate with management.
    • Provide timely responses to business unit queries regarding compliance with federal regulations and state laws.
    • Review marketing materials, advertisements, and disclosures for compliance purposes.
    • Collaborate with department managers to address compliance issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
    • Manage complaint tracking in the compliance department to identify trends and minimize risks.
    • Document all regulatory requirements in the Policy Management Program.
    • Summarize new regulations for Compliance management.
    • Conduct risk assessments of credit union operations to pinpoint focus areas and potential liabilities.
    • Perform additional assigned duties.
    • Adhere to NWFCU policies, procedures, and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act.


    Qualifications



    Required

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Legal Studies, Public Policy, or related fields. Equivalents in education along with compliance or audit experience may be considered.
    • Minimum of 1 year of regulatory compliance experience in the financial services sector or related fields.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret laws and provide practical solutions.
    • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to credit unions.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, logical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and on-site or remotely.
    • Availability to work Monday to Friday during standard business hours.

    Preferred

    • Compliance certification such as Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO, CUCE, CRCM).
