Position Summary The WPPA Surgical Scheduler is responsible for scheduling/coordinating all procedures and surgeries in the assigned Physician Practice and acts as the liaison between the patient, provider, clinical team, and WPH perioperative departments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: 1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors 2.

Fulfills responsibilities as assigned which may including scheduling all testing/procedures/surgeries; obtaining pre-certification for testing/procedures/surgeries; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; scanning; managing and updating charts to ensure information is accurate and complete; answers telephones, relays messages, and provides information 3.

Works collaboratively and maintains effective communication with patients to review all required pre
- and postoperative/procedure requirements, following up as necessary 4. Works collaboratively with WPH surgical scheduling team, PAT clinic, radiology, anesthesiology, collaborating providers, patient advocacy, and all other stakeholders as needed 5. Works with the department patient care teams to promote a positive patient experience 6. Works independently to prioritize, organize, and manage a daily assignment within the normal work period 7. Recognizes problem situations, sets priorities appropriately, offers feasible solutions, initiates appropriate actions 8. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergencies; communicates concerns/ problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor 9. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision making process to include recognition and priority setting relating to patient care and practice based issues 10. Participates as a member of the patient care team and responsible for participating in daily huddles and regularly scheduled practice team meetings 11. Attends in-services as required/requested 12. Cross-trains as back up to other business office positions as requested 13. Communicates self-learning needs to department manager 14. Demonstrates proficiency in computer software including Meditech, EPIC, OMP, EMMI, Microsoft Office Suite 15. Adheres to WPH infection control standards including, but not limited to hand hygiene 16. Completes annual mandatory requirements including Occupational Health Requirements 17. Performs all other related duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements High school diploma or GED required. College degree preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience using administrative office skills required. Proficiency in electronic health records preferred. Previous experience in surgical scheduling preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment Ability to perform computer work for extensive periods of time Occasionally move and/or transport of 15 to 20 pounds Requires movement about the department frequently throughout the day Ability to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time Ability to respond to frequent phone calls May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks.
