Job Summary

Designs, measures, fits, and adapts lenses and frames for client according to written optical prescription or specification.

General Accountabilities

Verify that finished contact lenses are made to specifications.
Assist patients with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses.
Assist patients with selecting frames.
Measure patients for size of eyeglasses and coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
Verify that lenses are made to meet prescription specifications.
May shape or reshape frames.
Prepare work orders and instructions for lab.
Measure patients bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit patients, using pliers and hands.
Assist patients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
Maintain records of patient prescriptions, work orders, and payments.
Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient needs.
Instruct patients in how to wear and care for eyeglasses.
*The company reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
*This position is a temporary position to cover a medical leave for an approximate duration of three (3) months. This is a full-time position, Monday – Friday.
This is a temporary position that could potentially lead to a permanent position as a floater between optical and departments.

Job Qualifications

Education: Associate's degree
Experience: Appropriate certifications and/or licensures with 1-2 years of on-the-job training or apprenticeship
