Position Summary:


To excel in this role, the Store Manager must cultivate a store culture that aligns with West Marine Core Values, in collaboration with key stakeholders.

This individual is tasked with overseeing store talent, recruitment, and development, driving sales and service strategies, analyzing data to shape store-specific plans, promoting customer service, addressing store needs proactively, and embodying West Marine's values within the community.


  • Travel Requirements: While this position doesn't involve regular overnight travel, occasional travels are necessary for meetings, training, or supporting neighboring stores in the district.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Ensure that Crew Members provide friendly, expert customer service and timely assistance to all shoppers.
  • Monitor store performance, profitability, and execution of plans and initiatives.
  • Lead and implement strategic plans and processes as a change advocate.
  • Oversee store operations, including expenses, merchandising standards, compliance, safety, security, and workforce, to enhance customer experiences, sales, and overall performance.
  • Maintain a strategic outlook on store talent, recruitment, sales strategies, customer service, and act as a brand ambassador for West Marine.
  • Ensure that West Marine Crew Members deliver high-quality customer service and maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked store.

Education, Experience & Skills:


  • Minimum education required/preferred, field of study:
  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of retail leadership experience in Sales exceeding 1M annually OR 5 years of retail leadership experience in a Sales exceeding 1M annually.
  • Preferably a Bachelor's Degree in business administration, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum required years of relevant experience:
  • 3 years of experience in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment.
  • Experience in establishing community partnerships.
  • Proficiency in analyzing customer, market, and competitor data for decision-making and planning.
  • Prior experience managing a store in the retail or marine industry is advantageous.
  • Additional required skills/knowledge include:


  • Experienced retail leader

  • Prior experience as a District Manager or Store Manager in a retail setting.
  • Love for boating expertise will be provided by West Marine.
  • Physical capabilities for tasks like standing, sitting for extended periods, and other job-related activities.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted; may need to lift more than 25 pounds with or without assistance.
