  • The Environmental Health Department works to keep our air, water, and food safe; it regulates, protects, and promotes the health of everyone in Alameda County by enforcing environmental health codes to reduce exposure to toxins and diseases.

PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT


As part of Alameda County Health, the Public Health Department works in partnership with our local communities to ensure the optimal health and well-being of all people.

We monitor health status and service delivery, prevent disease, mobilize communities, conduct outreach, and promote health policy and education.

We actively seek partnerships and engage with the community to improve community health through a dynamic and responsive process that respects diversity, addresses health equity, and challenges us to provide for present and future generations.


We are nurses, doctors, community psychologists, epidemiologists, dentists, medical social workers, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, outreach workers, health educators, program managers, and pre-hospital care coordinators.


THE POSITION


Under general supervision, to provide program planning, development, review and evaluation of clinical and administrative activities in assigned program(s); direct, coordinate and oversee the nursing and other health care services of a program to clients across the age spectrum and/or targeted populations; to supervise a multidisciplinary team including professional, para-professional support staff, nursing student and interns; to ensure program regulations and procedures are followed; and to do related work as required.


THE VACANCY
There are currently Registered Nurse IV vacancies within the Alameda County Public Health Department.

Each of the positions are Supervising Public Health Nurses (PHNs) in the Division of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention (DCDCP) and in the following Public Health Nursing Division programs: Nursing Education and Professional Development Unit,The Front Door Program and the Health and Safety Unit.

However, the eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in other program areas.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications below, these positions require possession of a current and valid Public Heath Nursing (PHN) certificate issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.


PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING DIVISION


The Public Health Nursing (PHN) Division is comprised of the Central Intake and Referral Unit; Health and Safety Unit; Nurse Education and Professional Development Unit; the Adult Protective Services Nurse Case Management Program; the Title 15 Jail Inspection Program; and public health nursing units within the Social Services Agency in Adult Protective Services, Foster Care and In-Home Supportive Services Programs.

The staff within the PHN Division work in multi-disciplinary teams to provide education, trainings, resources, and other supports and services to Alameda County residents, Public Health Department staff, other County Departments and Community-Base
