Summary
VCU's Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire a
Trades Specialist-Boiler Technician for Facilities Operations.

  • The Boiler Technician utilizes knowledge of the mechanical trade to perform preventive maintenance, repair and installation of Boiler/Hydronic systems ensuring efficient operation of Zone facilities; provides exemplary customer service to all faculty, staff and students supporting the University's mission of teaching, highimpact research and creative expression; identifies and documents system deficiencies using diagnostic tools and advise management of tasks requiring priority attention; and provides quality workmanship and service to maximize system availability and minimize unscheduled downtime.

Minimum Hiring Standards

  • Several years' experience working with commercial/institutional Boilers
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, service and install a wide variety of Boiler/ Hydronic systems
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers
  • Knowledge of appropriate building codes
  • Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment
  • Basic and advanced training or equivalent combination of experience and trade/craft training
  • Virginia Driver's License required
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Ability to be oncall required
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Salary Range:
$55,000 - $70,000 ($26.44/hr - $33.65/hr) + up to $5,000 Sign-on Bonus
