This position is not just a job; it's an opportunity to directly influence the safety and efficiency of over 15,000 state and local bridges. Working closely with the State Bridge Engineer, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of critical policies and quality assurance programs that define the standards in bridge policy, design, inspection, inventory, and data management. As a pivotal leader within the Bridge Division, you will propel initiatives that cultivate an engaged, diverse, future-thinking, and efficient culture.

Your role involves maintaining and elevating the division's esteemed reputation by driving forward practices that ensure the highest levels of excellence. This includes collaborating on a large scale with internal teams and external agencies, thereby enhancing the department's strategic direction and operational integrity. You will also participate actively in national policy and research discussions, ensuring the division stays at the forefront of technological advancements and regulatory standards.

Located at our central office in Lincoln, NE, this role offers the chance to lead in an environment that values innovation and efficiency, ensuring the billions invested in Nebraska's highway system are managed effectively to benefit all users. As part of the NDOT team, you'll contribute to planning, developing, designing, constructing, maintaining, and administering the state highway system. Our mission is to preserve the extensive investments Nebraskans have made in their transportation infrastructure, ensuring safety and efficiency while completing projects in a cost-effective manner.

With responsibility for a vast array of bridge-related activities, from oversight to hands-on policy formulation and quality assurance evaluations, you will have numerous opportunities to impact Nebraska's infrastructure significantly. Engage with national policy and research organizations, collaborate with top engineering professionals, and travel to conferences and trainings to network with peers and stay updated on the latest advancements in bridge engineering.

If you are a highly motivated and technically proficient bridge engineer passionate about tackling complex challenges and leading change, we encourage you to apply for this unique and impactful leadership opportunity.

    Job Duties:
In the role of Bridge Policy and Quality Assurance Engineer, you will undertake a variety of pivotal duties designed to enhance the safety, efficiency, and integrity of Nebraska's bridge infrastructure. The responsibilities outlined below provide a framework for what you will accomplish; however, they represent only a portion of the dynamic and impactful work you will engage in. This role requires a proactive and versatile approach to addressing challenges, ensuring both the continuous improvement of our processes and the advancement of our strategic objectives.

•Develop and Implement Quality Assurance Programs: Spearhead the creation and execution of comprehensive quality assurance programs that encompass the full spectrum of bridge policy, design, inspection, inventory, and data management. This includes setting benchmarks for standards and practices that ensure the integrity and safety of bridge infrastructure across Nebraska.

•Maintain and Update Quality Assurance Processes: Regularly assess and refine quality assurance processes and manuals to align with the latest industry standards and technological advancements. Your efforts will enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, keeping the division at the forefront of best practices.

•Facilitate Collaboration and Support: Act as a key liaison within the division, providing expert guidance on complex technical challenges. Support and enhance team collaboration, ensuring projects are approached effectively and meaningfully to drive quality improvements across bridge infrastructure.

•Engage in Policy Development and Discussions: Take a lead role in national policy and research discussions that affect bridge engineering standards and practices. Your involvement will ensure that the division remains influential and compliant with evolving regulations and innovations.

•Manage Policy Documentation: Oversee the lifecycle of division-wide policy documents, from development to publication. This includes monitoring for necessary edits and updates to ensure documents reflect current policies and practices effectively.
