Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Factory Automation
We are seeking a software leader to join us and help create new capabilities and processes to help develop and optimize our factories (recycling, refining, and battery material production).
This role will lead a team of software engineers and coordinate with a variety of other disciplines to develop software applications for sophisticated real-time controls and industrial automation including controls engineers, mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, systems modelers, and more.
These software applications will leverage advanced capabilities such as predictive control and inferential variable control to control complex systems and equipment.
The software will also incorporate feedback from simulations and models of the physical plants (often referred to as "digital twins").
Responsibilities will include:
Lead the design, development, and operations of Python based applications to advance our factory control systems.
Integrate output from offline simulations, models, and other external data sources into real-time plant controllers.
Some examples of external data sources are power consumption models, metal pricing forecasts, and chemistries of end-of-life batteries in our inventory.
Manage software applications in offline test environments against simulated plants as well as software that runs live on the plant floor.
Work with a highly cross-functional landscape of engineers to gather requirements, and work with stakeholders to provide solutions as they are required.
Desired Qualifications
B.S.
or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or another discipline with significant relevant work experience.
Minimum 8 years of software development experience dealing with physical process modeling or controls systems.Working knowledge of Python and/or simulation software packages, and functional software engineering skills.
Strong experience with building custom process control systems and excellent understanding of control theories (PID controllers, feed forward techniques, etc.)
Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and thermodynamics first principles and fundamentals.
Eagerness to oversee complex system designs.
Self-motivated, hands-on attitude, with a willingness to contribute at all levels.
