Qualifications:


  • Master's degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years leadership experience support Students with Disabilities
  • Meet Florida certification requirements in administration and supervision or educational leadership
  • Florida Certification in Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
  • School Principal Certification
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendentmay find appropriate.

Performance Responsibilities:


  • Ensures adherence to federal and state regulations regarding the provision of services to students with disabilities.
  • Develops procedures and criteria for exceptional student programs.
  • Monitors student eligibility for exceptional student education programs.
  • Oversees and facilitates the provision of Exceptional Student Education programs, facilities, curricula, learning activities, materials and supplies, support services, and teaching practices.
  • Coordinates with school leaders to ensure adequate support of all Students with Disabilities within any schoolwide plans.
  • Analyzes student assessment information for program improvement initiatives.
  • Supervises speciallydesigned curriculum and instruction programs consistent with State Statutes and Board policies.
  • Recommends policies and programs essential to the needs of exceptional students.
  • Oversees compliance with student placement requirements, and due process rights.
  • Coordinate legal services with the School Board and exceptional student education attorneys.
  • Informs the school principal of student eligibility for exceptional student programs.
  • Develops procedures for maintenance of individual educational records of students enrolled in exceptional student programs.
  • Monitors staffing, Individual Education Plans (IEP), annual (IEP) reviews, and reassignment staffing.
  • Monitors the implementation of state requirements and initiatives.
  • Submits, administers, and evaluates federal grants for exceptional student education programs.
  • Assists in developing plans for physical plant facilities and makes recommendations for design, furnishings, and equipment space for exceptional students.
  • Assists in developing the District Strategic Plan. Recommends policies and programs essential to the needs of exceptional students.
  • Prepares and submits data, reports, and other items to the Florida Department of Education as appropriate.
  • Develops and monitors contractual agreements with related service providers and other staff as appropriate.
  • Supervises Florida Diagnostics Learning Resource System (FDLRS) personnel for the provision of professional development and Child Find activities.
  • Serves on district and community boards and committees which provides services for regular and exceptional students.
  • Prepares and monitors budgets and administers departmental budget, including materials and equipment.
  • Coordinates FTE and Handicapped counts for Exceptional Student Education programs.
  • Assists in the allocation of Exceptional Student Education staff and in monitoring the district staffing formula.
  • Acquires and coordinates supplementary materials, curricula, and services for regular and exceptional students and staff.
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, and placement of instructional staff and support services staff for Exceptional Student Education.
  • Attends School Board meetings and prepares reports and presentations as required.
  • Assigns Exceptional Student Education personnel to the Suspension/ Expulsion Review Team and monitors the impact of recommendations on students with disabilities.
  • Reports regularly to the Superintendent on any developments or situations with the district requiring the superintendent's awareness or action.
  • Performs other jobrelated functions as assigned.
  • Benefits eligibility will be determined and communicated to new hires during the onboarding process.
