Primary Purpose
The Dispatcher - Field Trip Coordinator is responsible for all elements of field trip operations for the district, assigning and scheduling bus drivers, routes, and vehicles to ensure safe, effective, and economical transportation for extra-curricular field trip services.
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma/GED equivalent (some college preferred)
- Possess or obtain within 90 days a commercial driver's license with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements
- Possess the certification or complete the School Bus Driver Training Certification Course within 180 days
- Possess or acquire a clear to drive from Aldine ISD's Training Academy within 90 days of employment
- Possess or acquire immediately a Medical Examiner's Certificate for commercial driver medical certification
- Pass DOT preemployment drug and alcohol test Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to use GPS to track buses maximize efficiency and effectiveness of Dispatch
- Must follow District and Transportation Department Policies and Procedures
- Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to direct, motivate, and supervise drivers and attendants
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to effectively use a twoway radio
- Must be able to read and interpret route sheets as well as read and use a map
Experience:
- School bus driving experience
- Experience in a previous leadership role preferred
- Oversee field trip operations and schedule all field trip assignments
- Assess basic needs to accommodate each trip
- Coordinate communication regarding field trips
- Provide maps and directions to destinations
- Oversee vehicle assignments and ensure the vehicle is ready for trips
- Pre-trip, fuel and clean trip buses as needed
- Coordinate with the leasing companies for all district-leased vehicles and vendor-leased vehicles
- Issue bus, trip sheet and keys the day of the trip
- In an emergency situation, return to Transportation after hours when there are mechanical problems with a trip bus, lost keys or any other problems pertaining to field trips
- Substitute for dispatcher in his/her absence as needed
- Substitute on bus routes as needed
Maintain confidentiality of information Records, Reports, and Correspondence:
- Assist in filing and updating of all field trip transportation paperwork
- Prepare and send out billing of field trips and leased vehicles for all campuses
- Compile, and maintain other files, logs, and worksheets related to field trip operations
Safety:
- Perform disaster duty as needed (hurricanes, storms, earthquakes, etc.)
- Observe all safety rules according to DOT regulations, including passing random alcohol and drug tests
- Report any and all incidents and accidents to the proper authorities to include Department/District Administration, Aldine Police Department, campus administration, and emergency services (911).
Other:
- Any other duties assigned by Department Administration
Pay:
$30, $50,460.00 per year
