- 911 Dispatcher receives routine and emergency call for services or assistance, coordinates appropriate responses from various sources, such as police, fire, rescue, emergency services, etc.
Responsibilities:
Operates computerized emergency communications console
Answers incoming calls and obtains pertinent information relative to need for emergency police response and enters requests into CAD system
Monitors and records movement via CAD of all police and emergency personnel and determines from available resources the correct assignment or utilization of equipment and personnel
Insures presence of reserve units by contacting personnel designated for call back
Communicates with other departments/agencies concerning needs of services (i.e, FBI, VSP, Hazmat, MedFlight, Pegasus, Va. Power, Gas companies, Electric companies, etc.)
Inputs data, maintains dispatch documents, records and prepares reports
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Dispatcher 911
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid VA Driver's License
Must be able to attend and complete dispatcher training
Must attend and complete training for VCIN certification
Working knowledge of computers and electronic data entry/processing equipment
Knowledge of departmental policies and SOP
Knowledge of laws and regulations concerning use of computer files and access to DMV, CCRE, FBI, etc.
Must be able to communicate effectively and be proficient in use of telephone, radio, teletype, etc.
Must be able to work effectively with others
Additional Information:
All applicants must pass a written test, background check, drug screening and will be administered a polygraph examination
