JOB OVERVIEW:


Under the supervision of the Container Operations/ Maintenance management team and HR, the Management Trainee will acquire all the essential knowledge needed to become an Assistant Manager to directly supervise, plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate all Container Operations and Maintenance service departments and employees.

JOB DUTIES:


  • Ensures all Yard, Vessel, Gate, Control Center, and Intermodal operations are run safely, efficiently, and within the parameters of the operating budget.
  • Coordinates with the Georgia Ports Authority Maintenance Department to ensure the availability of container handling equipment for service (production) demands as well as for preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Works closely with Maintenance Managers and Foremen. Makes appropriate recommendations for correction of hazards, procedural discrepancies, and deterioration of equipment, schedules Maintenance activities, and updates PMs and work orders for efficiency and improvements.
  • Assists Managers and Foremen in job planning functions, along with job cost summaries, parts requisitions, and equipment modification. Monitor's progress of ongoing work.
Maintains all maintenance planning aspects of SAP including releasing and closing preventative maintenance work orders.
Schedules all equipment inspections by outside independent inspection agencies. Maintains all OSHA inspection reports and certificates. Ensures that all items identified by inspections are corrected in a timely manner.

  • Participates in meetings, mandatory training, and other learning opportunities during the training program.
  • Oversees the scheduling of departmental employees.
  • Ensures proper training of employees to safely operate container handling equipment and relevant GPA computer systems.
  • Coordinates with external customers to ensure the Yard (Marine Terminal, CES Warehouse, or Intermodal Container Transfer Facility) is organized and operated in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Makes plans to facilitate new business opportunities and analyzes operating methods.
  • Prepares evaluations for departmental employees. Conducts regular Safety and Business meetings with departmental employees.
  • Monitors Yard activities and production levels as required.
  • Assists with the preparation of the department's budget.
  • Assists with the preparation of department goals and implements procedures to accomplish those goals.
  • Ensures all employees perform their duties with the utmost concern for their safety, their equipment's upkeep, and the safety and wellbeing of those working on the Port.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to schedule, organize, and supervise the work of subordinates.
Ability to exercise prompt independent judgment.
Ability to learn and manage the GPA computer systems.
Excellent oral, written, and listening skills required.

Ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers, representatives of the shipping industry, and the general public required.


Experience

  • 3 years of related work experience Preferred
  • Prior management experience Preferred

Education

  • Preferred Fouryear college degree in business, transportation or related field

Licenses & Certifications

  • TWIC
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required


  • Driver's License

  • Valid state driver's license Required
