    The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) offers a unique recruitment opportunity for a

    UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE)

    Livestock and Natural Resources Area Advisor .

    UC ANR coordinates a statewide network of researchers and educators in partnership with Counties that are dedicated to the development and application of knowledge to address local agricultural, environmental, youth, and health issues.

    Over 200 UC ANR UCCE academics conduct research, outreach and education from locally based Cooperative Extension offices in over 70 locations.

    The Livestock and Natural Resources Area Advisor will implement an innovative extension education and applied research program to address issues related to livestock production and marketing.

    Applied Research, Extension and Education

    The advisor will address high-priority issues related to livestock production and marketing systems, as well as rangeland and natural resource management.

    Specifically, the advisor will address commercial production, animal health, food safety, meat processing and marketing, water quality, soil quality, and ecosystem health.

    Species that will be emphasized will be cattle, sheep, goats, and small-scale poultry.

    This is an exciting opportunity to do research and provide research-based education on livestock management practices to enhance production efficiency, ranch profitability and the ecosystem services associated with rangeland livestock production.

    There are numerous opportunities to build partnerships with livestock producers, public resource management agencies (NRCS, California Fish and Wildlife, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and resource conservation districts), nonprofit conservation organizations (such as fire safe councils, local watershed councils, land trusts, and other non-government organizations) and a number of youth groups (4-H, FFA, and Grange).

    The advisor joins a team of highly motivated UCCE colleagues who are passionate about their work and are dedicated to making a difference within the communities and throughout California.

    The potential for collaborative projects within the UC ANR system is nearly limitless.

    This position will be strategically located at the UC ANR Placer County office and provides additional support for Nevada, Sutter and Yuba Counties.


    Reporting Relationship :

    The CE Advisor serves under the administrative guidance of the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Placer-Nevada-Plumas-Sierra Director with input from the Sutter-Yuba County Director.

    Qualifications and Skills Required

    Education:


    A minimum of a Master's degree in in animal science, range management or closely related field is required at the time of appointment.

    Additional Requirements

    Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.

    Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle.
    This is not a remote position. The candidate must be available to work onsite. In accordance with UC ANR Flexible Work Guidelines

    flexible work agreements are available upon approval by supervisors and periodic re-evaluation.

    Be able to develop and integrate all aspects of livestock production to promote sustainability, profitability, food safety, and environmental stewardship.

    Desired Experience

    Course work to be a Certified Rangeland Manager within 5 years of hire. )
    Experience in conducting field research in agriculture or natural resources; planning and implementation of broad, large-scale research and extension programs;
    An understanding of how public policy impacts agricultural management and producer decision-making.
    Passion and desire to pursue a career in Cooperative Extension
    Experience in building partnerships and with multidisciplinary teams
    Demonstrated ability to effectively plan projects, manage teams and implement an applied research and outreach program, including setting measurable goals and objectives

    To be successful, the CE Advisor requires skills in the following area:

    The candidate should have a deep understanding of livestock and rangeland management and be able to design and implement a program that leads to positive changes and impact within the community and beyond.

    Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, and interpersonal and information technology communication skills. Public speaking to stakeholders is a routine part of this position.

    Salary & Benefits

    Salary :

    The salary range for this Cooperative Extension Advisor position is Assistant Rank, Step I ($79,500) to Step VI ($100,900).

    Step placement in the advisor series is based on applicable experience and professional qualifications.

    . If the successful candidate is currently a UCCE Advisor, the candidate will be offered the position without change to the candidate's current rank, step, salary and/or appointment terms; and if applicable, is eligible to retain indefinite status.
    This position is eligible for indefinite status following three successful reviews and subject to terms noted in UC ANR Policy and Procedure Manual, Section 315
