    Job Description

    American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical position specializing in general surgery, urology, gynecology, and bariatric surgery, with a minimum of 2 years of experience and an active IN or Compact RN license required.

    Responsibilities
    5C is a 31-bed Med/Surg unit with a concentration in general surgery, urology, gynecology, and bariatric surgery

    Patient ratio is 1:6

    Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
    Floating is required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals
    Local candidates are not accepted for this Med/Surg position
    First-time travelers are welcome to apply
    Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
    Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO may be auto-approved; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
    Any current or former permanent or PRN employee of IU Health must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
    Current or past IU Health travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health are required to take a consecutive break to reset travel eligibility — this break cannot be split
    Indiana residents who are approaching their traveler year mark must take a 6-month (180-day) break to reset eligibility; out-of-state residents require a 3-month (90-day) break
    Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RN residents are not eligible for this Med/Surg position (exemptions apply to Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers)

    Requirements
    Active IN or Compact RN license required (must be in hand prior to start)
    Current BLS certification required (AHA or RQI accepted)
    Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
    Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited university required
    Proficiency in Cerner EMR required
    Experience with bariatric surgery, thyroidectomy, bowel obstruction, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) required (3/4 proficiency level)
    Experience with general surgery post-op care, urology, and GYN post-surgical care required (3/4 proficiency level)
    Experience with wound care/wound vac, surgical drains, and peripheral nerve block catheters
    SSN and date of birth required for consideration
    2 supervisor references required for consideration
