    Smith We are ResponsiveWe have IntegrityWe are DynamicWe exhibit ExcellencePRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESServes as advisor and assistant in administering approved plans and programs in accordance with company policies and procedures or general instructionsResponsible for oversite of the prototype shop facilities and fabrication departmentProvide direction necessary for efficient and timely performance of prototype component fabrication, vehicle build and test requirements for product development and program management of company projectsCoordinate with the Mishawaka Manufacturing Campus (MMC) personnel, to allow efficient hand off to serial productionResponsible for experimental operations project labor, materials, and equipment with an annual average value of several multi-million dollarsPlans, organizes, directs, and controls, through one or more subordinate levels of supervision, the entire function of the experimental operation, as it relates to component fabrication, assembly of prototype vehicles (components), representing new product designSubordinate functions include the acquisition and coordination of materials and components, fabrication of parts and assemblies, and assembly of prototype components/vehiclesSchedules and coordinates the various project and shop functions necessary to meet project milestone, schedule dates and budgetsParticipates in Engineering Department annual budget forecast, preparing manpower projections, capital equipment, and supply requirementsImplements, supports, and maintains department procedures, systems and records required to meet Government contract requirements, as well as good commercial practiceDelegates position of responsibility to subordinate supervisors, but does not relinquish any part of accountability for overall results in the control of equipment and tools, repair and maintenance of department vehicle fleet, vehicle and assembly teardown Formulates procedures and/or plans for cost control, schedules, methods improvement, manpower levels and timekeeping for department personnelEnsures that effective training of personnel is conducted to fulfill present and future needs, evaluates the effectiveness of subordinate supervision, and promotes effective employee-management relationsResponsible for effectively recommending all personnel actions related to hiring, termination, transfer, promotion, work assignment, discipline, vacation, performance evaluations, salary increases, etc.

    Physical Location:

    This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours.

    The Employee must be able to perform job functions in an environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noisesTeamwork:

    Listening Skills:

    This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accuratelyAbility to follow instructions: Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary; this position should be able to follow instructions competentlyMethodical approach: Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production lineConcentration: This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes.
