Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Physician's Assistant (PA) functions independently in the medical office setting in collaboration with a supervising physician. Emphasis on patient care, stable acute illness reprieve, health promotion and illness/injury prevention. Coordinates staffing and orientation of assigned team members. Plans and conducts ongoing education and training. Maintains infection control/safety standards, and be committed to providing and promoting patient-centered communication and care.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Assesses patient health status including state of wellness, compliance with care plan and determines appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, d monitoring therapies, giving injections and medications
Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems.
Makes responsible decisions within the scope of a dependent medical practitioner.
Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
Documents patient information and care provided in patient record and maintains department statistics. Uses computer to access/enter needed data.
Develops as needed health education programs and materials
Works collaboratively with all members of health care team.
Educates patients and families as appropriate. Provides continuity of care.
Consults with other staff as necessary.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education (Including Licenses and Certifications):

Must have an active license to practice nursing in the state of North Carolina as a Registered Nurse. Must have written approval by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or current North Carolina PA license, certified by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
BLS/CPR Certification required

Experience:

Prior experience in a NP or PA in a primary care setting is preferred.
