    Job Description

    Colonial Behavioral Health provides opportunities for recovery to individuals and their family members in the areas of mental illness, substance use disorder, and developmental disabilities. Colonial Behavioral Health serves the citizens of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, and York County.

    We are currently recruiting for a Co-Occurring Disorder Specialist position within our Assertive Community Treatment program. This position will provide will provide treatment for co-occurring disorders (COD) to individuals who suffer with substance abuse and persistent mental illness.

    Job Duties

    Job Responsibilities
    • Performs substance use assessments that considers the relationship between substance use and mental health, determines individual service needs and/or stage of change and develops treatment plan/services in coordination with consumer and ACT Team.
    • Provides direct outpatient treatment services in various modes, including short-term crisis intervention; individual, group, and family therapy, motivational interviewing techniques, cognitive behavioral approaches, and relapse prevention strategies consistent with consumer stage of change readiness
    • Assess level of substance use disorder need using ASAM criteria. Assesses individuals in need of inpatient detox/residential treatment and coordinates admission and discharge those programs.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    Qualifications (EEO)

    .Skills and Qualifications
    • Knowledge of adult and geriatric psychology in behavioral health and developmental services; of primary models for treatment of individuals.
    • Knowledge of crisis intervention theory and techniques, and their application to individuals in crisis.
    • Knowledge of substance use disorder concepts, symptoms, dynamics, and related treatment aspects and of various therapeutic interventions and counseling techniques.
    • Master's degree in Human Services or related field required.
    • Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-A) required.
    • Licensed Eligible status with the board of counseling. preferred
    • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). preferred
    • Valid Driver's license and acceptable driving required .
    • Minimum of three years of clinical experience working with individuals diagnosed with SMI and substance use disorders required.
