    We are seeking applicants with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on project management and client engagement.

    Demonstrated experience in Maine-specific environmental regulations is preferred.

    As Principal, you will lead, develop, and oversee an environmental consulting practice, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and innovative solutions to clients.

    Your extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, assessment methodologies, and project management will be instrumental in delivering high-quality consulting services and driving sustainable outcomes for our clients.

    You will join our Environmental and Health practice

    The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical and business leadership and contribute to advanced solutions in the environmental, chemical, commercial, manufacturing, government, energy, financial, insurance, and/or law sectors.

    In addition, the successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to generate and maintain a volume of business sufficient to support the growth of the firm.

    Typically, successful applicants generate at least enough business to support 2-3 staff members.

    This individual will have experience managing consulting assignments, must work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, is expected to be proficient in the analysis and communication of information, and must be able to work cooperatively with agencies, organizations, and individuals to guide decision-making.

    The successful candidate also is expected to be proficient in all facets of project management and must demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and developing staff and collaboration with colleagues throughout the Practice.


    Your key tasks and responsibilities may include:

    Client Engagement:
    Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships. Understand their environmental consulting needs, develop tailored solutions, and provide exceptional client service.

    Project Management:

    Lead and manage environmental consulting projects from initiation to completion, ensuring deliverables are met within budget and timeline constraints.

    Supervise project teams, allocate resources effectively, and maintain project documentation.

    Environmental Assessments:

    Conduct and oversee environmental assessments, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), environmental impact assessments, due diligence assessments, and contaminated site investigations.

    Interpret findings and provide recommendations for mitigation and remediation.

    Regulatory Compliance:

    Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and ensure that consulting projects adhere to all applicable laws and guidelines.

    Advise clients on compliance requirements and assist in obtaining necessary permits.

    Risk Assessment and Management:
    Identify and assess environmental risks associated with client projects. Develop risk management strategies and assist clients in implementing effective measures to mitigate risks and ensure environmental compliance.

    Environmental Permitting:

    Assist clients in navigating the regulatory permitting process, including obtaining permits for activities such as air emissions, wastewater discharge, wetland impact, and hazardous waste management.


    Sustainability Consulting:
    Provide expertise in sustainability practices and help clients develop and implement sustainable strategies. Advise on energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, and other sustainability initiatives.

    Team Leadership:
    Manage and mentor a team of environmental consultants, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

    Business Development:
    Identify new business opportunities, prepare proposals, and participate in client presentations. Expand the client base and maintain a strong network of industry contacts to generate business leads.

    Thought Leadership:
    Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the environmental consulting field. Contribute to industry forums, publish articles, and deliver presentations to establish the organization as a thought leader.

    Offshore Wind Experience Desired:
    Demonstrated experience and expertise in the field of offshore wind energy projects. Familiarity with the environmental considerations, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements specific to offshore wind developments.

    Proven ability to provide environmental consulting services and strategic guidance for offshore wind projects, including impact assessments, mitigation strategies, and stakeholder engagement.

    Knowledge of offshore wind industry best practices and emerging trends is highly desirable.

    For this role, we believe your starting point is:

    Education:
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field. Advanced degrees and relevant certifications (e.g., P.E., CPG, CHMM) are highly desirable.

    Experience:

    A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on project management and client engagement.

    Demonstrated experience in Maine-specific environmental regulations is preferred.

    Technical Expertise:
    Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, assessment methodologies, and permitting processes. Proficiency in conducting Phase I and Phase II ESAs, risk assessments, and contaminated site investigations. Familiarity with remediation technologies, sustainability practices, and offshore wind expertise is advantageous.

    Leadership Skills:
    Proven leadership abilities with the capability to manage and inspire a team. Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills are essential.

    Client-Focused Approach:
    Ability to understand and address client needs, build trust, and deliver high-quality consulting services. Strong presentation and negotiation skills to effectively communicate complex environmental concepts to diverse stakeholders.

    Project Management:
    Demonstrated experience in managing multiple consulting projects simultaneously, including budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management. Proficiency in project management software and tools is beneficial.

    Business Development:
    Track record of successful business development, including generating leads, preparing proposals, and winning new projects.
    Strong written and oral communication skills.

    Being a confident communicator with superior management skills, having natural leadership talent and the ability to motivate multidisciplinary teams across geographical borders, and have the motivation and ability to generate and maintain a sufficient volume of business to support company growth.
