At Summa Academy, the Registered Behavior Technician supports our Non-Public School (NPS) team with implementing student's Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to include all academic and behavioral goals and objectives.

RBT's attend to the instructional, behavioral, physical, and health needs of students; monitor and report student progress regarding performance with regards to each individual student's program.

In addition to providing instructional support to students with disabilities under the guidance of the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, and Associate Director, the Registered Behavior Assistant can support with all duties that enable students with disabilities to have equal educational opportunities and access to their academic placement.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist the classroom and school team in providing instruction to students in an assigned classroom or program as designated by our Non-Public School administration.
  • Assist students with disabilities to meet their goals and objectives defined in their IEP.
  • Implement classwide and individual behavior strategies to effectively maintain a safe learning environment, in collaboration with the classroom staff.
  • Assist the classroom and school team in monitoring, motivating and teaching students with various disabilities; observe and manage academic and behavior skills of students according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student academic performance and behavior as directed by the classroom and school team; follow the behavior intervention plan.
  • Support students or an assigned student with daily living and functional skills related to their areas of need and IEP goals, including toileting.
  • Develops and implements modifications and intervention strategies based on student need, as directed by the classroom and school team.
  • React and intervene quickly during crisis situations, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: student elopement, physical altercations involving students, or any situation that requires physical intervention to maintain student safety.
  • Assist with data collection; take data on goals and determine when a student has reached a benchmark to ensure continued and ongoing student progress in collaboration with the classroom and school team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Education and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • RBT certification preferred or willingness to complete 40 hours of training through approved curriculum and pass the competency examination within 60 days of employment with Summa
  • AA or bachelor's degree or enrolled in college or community college with emphasis in psychology, child development, or related field (preferred)
  • Previous 2year experience working with children, ABA, or Autism related field
  • Passion and enthusiasm for working with children

Work Environment & Physical Demands:


  • The position typically operates onsite, inperson, in a school environment with business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:005:00 pm.
  • The employee may be required to intervene and deescalate physical and emotional outbursts by students, including such behaviors as kicking, spitting, hitting, scratching, biting, running, and cursing; the employee must be able to run quickly for brief spurts.
  • While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach.
  • The position requires the ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises, including supporting with toileting and other basic needs

Pay:
$ $31.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32.5 per week
