    Description

    About the Job:
    This job opportunity is located in Nursing Service at Boise VA Medical Center in Boise, ID. As a Nursing Assistant, you will be providing essential support to Veterans requiring long-term and acute care. Your responsibilities will include working with hospice, acute rehab, and skilled veterans to assist them with activities of daily living. No prior experience is necessary as on-the-job training will be provided. This role presents a fantastic chance for aspiring nursing students to gain valuable experience in bedside care without the need for certification.



    Qualifications:
    • United States Citizenship is a basic requirement, as per VA Policy
    • Education or Training equivalent to one year above high school related to the NA occupation
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required

    Grade Determinations:

    • GS-3: No experience beyond basic requirements needed
    • GS-4: One year of experience as a Nursing Assistant or in a medical field, or completion of 2 years of relevant education above high school
    • GS-5: One year of experience equivalent to GS-4 level, or completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree


    Preferred Experience:
    Candidates with experience in hospice care are preferred for this position.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity are essential
    • Work involves physical activities like standing, walking, bending, sitting, kneeling, climbing, stooping, etc.
    • Fine and gross motor movements are required, along with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Incumbents in this role may be exposed to infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens
    • The employee is expected to follow proper safe patient handling techniques
    • The work schedule may include varied shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays
    • Noise level may vary from moderate to extreme

    Duties:
    As a Nursing Assistant, your main responsibilities will include:
    • Providing nursing care to patients/residents with physical and behavioral issues
    • Contributing to the development and evaluation of the Veteran's treatment plan
    • Participating in unit performance improvement initiatives and promoting change
    • Performing procedures to maintain patient well-being and documenting care provided
    • Ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality is maintained at all times
    • Conducting technical procedures as required

    Work Schedule:
    This is a night shift position at the Boise VA Medical Center, not a virtual role.
